He is the best professor I have had in this University. He respects the students so they share the same toward him. In his classes you will get many points of view which will help the student to develop his or her own ideas and believes. He gives you the
Dr. Husain does an exceptional job of being well prepared for his classes. Class discusions are entertaining and very educational. This is a class that every student has to take at the University of South Alabama
Dr. Husain, if not the best Professor in the Political Science Department, is then tied for first. He is extremely knowledgeable, especially in international politics and relations, and his enthusiasm is contagious. Students in his classes find it enjoyab
I have always enjoyed his classes for lively discussions and interactive forum. He gives credit for people who show interest and stand up for what they believe in.
Great Class. . .A must take for all Political Science Majors!
If you only take one class ever TAKE THIS ONE. I wish I had taken a class with him earlier in school. Had I, my whole academic career would have been different. BEST PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT.
Dr. Husain challenged me by giving me the necessary tools I needed to excel while being there to guide my progress. He is an exceptional professor who believes in hard work, class attendance and participation. I am a better person because I was taug
He is the best Professor in the University.
Great teacher and a great speaker. Really has a passion for learning and for guiding others along the same path.
He is the best!
He is very helpful outside of the classroom. This semester he was reviewing a book and allowed his performance in class to suffer for 1-2 months. He is extremely well qualified for teaching IR. Material to be covered on tests was not always clear.
An excellent and highly qualified teacher. Very knowlegable and great in speaking. Promotes discussion and engagement among his students.
Don’t take him, he is very lazy.
A great professor allows all the students to express their views even if they contradict with his own views. Promote public speaking skills in the class by allowing students to give oral reports. I recommend him highly for great learning experience.
A gifted professor who truly enjoys teaching. Test are hard, but he looks at overall picture. I will take him again. I highly recommend him to everyone who wants to learn. Extra credit, he gives alot.
Always goes beyond the teaching relm. He is a perfect example of how a teacher should be. I wish other professors would step back and pay attention, He is a brilliant man. Always welcomes questions, never puts people down. USA is lucky to have him. He is always prepared for his class. Always on ti
Great teacher. Always helpful.
Very caring professor. Really wants his students to learn. He so wants his students to be a success. Worthwhile to take a class from him.
An example of how other teachers should be. Really cares that students learn.
I didn't learn anything in this class but it was an easy grade. Only gives 2 tests which are 100+ & 200+ questions. Hardest test I have ever taken. Don't plan on learning anything, we didn't open the book until the last few weeks of class. He does care about his students though. Just do ALL of the take home work, ALL of the bonus and you got A
Hard test, but lots of extra credit. Tends to be condescending to femals. He picks who he wants to have A's. He states specificially that test grades do matter.

Dr. Husain is a freakin genius who knows his stuff and really cares about his students. he always gives both sides of the issue and doesn't push a political agenda. TAKE HIS CLASSES
Brilliant!!!! Brilliant!!!! He has that special ability to grab your attention and pull you into his lectures!
He knows his stuff, but is hard.
absolutely brilliant, knows so many names and dates its unreal.
He knows so many facts, it is amazing. I really enjoyed his class, but his tests are impossible. Do the extra credit and all the take home assignments and don't worry too much about the tests
Dr. Husain made the class so interested it resulted in me changing the focus of my core discipline with an emphasis on issues related to international affairs, especially, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
there isn't a teacher in the department with more respect among students his classes are always packed and you can't help but learn something...doesn't rely heavily on textbooks but he probably knows more than the text has to offer. Do the take home assignments and come to class, participate and wait for grade - it will be fair, usually an A.
This class focuses on the causes and consequences of 9-11. There have been excellent speakers and moving documentaries. Those familiar with Dr. Husain will be glad to know he changed the midterm to a take home exam, similar to the required take home assignment. Come to class and participate you will improve your GPA!
Comparative Politics is great. I learned the complexities that suffuse global political systems through the study of leaders, people groups, and bureaucracy. Dr. Husain utilized many wonderful tools (i.e. video excerpts, debate, etc.) to enhance the learning experience. Learning in his classes was not just educational but a real pleasure.
He challenges the mind, reality; shows how each & every aspect of the world is intertwined. He made politics a refreshingly fun topic worthy of respect, hard work, and research. Some of the best time I ever spent was in relation to his classes and I learned to expand my mind and knowledge and always seek more. An excellent man!
a constant flow of speakers will ensure he does not have to teach. Spends a considerable amount of time just calling the roll. His facts are not always correct.
I have not come across a professor who teaches his class with such passion and delight like Dr. Hussain. I've taken four classes with him through out my school years and all of them have been a great experience. His knowledge on international affairs is extensive and insightful. Certainly one the best professors on campus.
Dr. Husain provides a great deal of information to his students, while at the same time instilling enthusiasm for the subject matter and an ability to think critically about a variety of issues. Welcomes dialogue and debate. Definitely an asset to South's faculty.
He is a very passionate and exciting gentlemen. Loves his subjects. Provides interesting speakers, documentaries, etc. Really knows his facts and history. Emphasizes heavily on attendance. Tale Home Projects are enormous, so start early. Tests do not count much.
I have taken 6 classes with Dr.Husain and he has been one of my favorite professors of my college career. I have never seen anyone with the ability to recall information and dates like he can. His enthousiasm is astounding and infectious. He is understanding and always helps his students. Definitely someone I would recommend to others. (D. Steele)
Par Excellence. Extremely knowledgeable, well aware, critical thinker, fair and challenging at the same time. He knows his subject and is an awesome orator. Passinate teacher, goes above and beyond his capacity to ensure that students clearly understand subject matter. He personally takes interest in students and gives you the push and mentoring th
Dr. Husain is one of the most helpful professors on campus. He encouraged me to do better and always had wonderful advice for me. He is a superb teacher who knows his subject matter very well. His lectures are extremely interesting and informative. My advise to you all out there - take one of his classes if you can.
Sitting in this class was difficult. I also dont understand the grading system. There were people who made 50's on the tests and made A's.
Well-prepared and well-spoken professor. Maintains a very professsional appearance and exhibits a positive responsive demeanor during classroom discussion. The professor makes great use of documentaries, lectures, and guest speakers to accompany all learning styles.
Excellent teacher, mentor and researcher; outstanding in every way, but not an easy professor. Why would I want an easy course?
dr. husain is a great teacher and a great person. i enjoyed his class and learned much from him. thanks.
Dr. Husain is in my opinion the best teacher at South. Have taken several classes w/him and wish I could take more.
Dr. Husain is a good professor. He is not very clear on his expectations for the class..he says one thing one class and changes it the next. Our class relied heavily on the text. The so-called quizzes where 100 questions or more. Do the extra credit and go to class and you should make and A or B.
In 2 words “exceptional professor”! He cares about his students. He wants you to walk away with a better understanding rather than just cram for his exams. Class is no cake walk but you will retain what he teaches. Most importantly do ALL the work and the Extra Credit he offers.
very knowledgable, intelligent, make subject very interesting, great human being. i would say, one should take a class with him..:)
one should take a class with him. he is very interesting professor with loads of knowledge.
Dr. Husain is an absolutely amazing professor. In my opinion, he is overqualified for South. I learned so much from him, this past semester. Not only is he unbelievably knowledgeable, he is also truly passionate about his subject, and always promotes students to express their opinions. He has inspired me to minor in political science. TAKE HIM!
If you say in his class that Muslims are great people and America is the worst country then you will get an A otherwise you will get B or lower. Try to ignore him. He made us buy his book and never used it
I have taken at least six classes with Dr. Husain, the comments about his preferential treatment are an indication the student must have another agenda. Read the other comments, and notice the only negative come from lower classmen...take Dr. Husain if you want to know what is really going on in the world.
Professor Husain rocks!
He will let you say what is on your mind about the topic that is being talked about. He also makes it so that you can do different things for extra credit that goes to your final grade.
International Relations is a difficult class. You must read the material and use the online tests. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! He keeps you until time. Read the material before class and be prepared to answer questions. He is a great, disregard what someone wrote about being a Muslim. That is wrong, b/c he is very open-minded and never pushes his opinions
I enjoyed his class and knew nothing about International Relations before taking this course. Anyone who says he is **** in anyway probably did not attend class that often because he is VERY openminded! I suggest this teacher for anyone wanting to really learn something worth while!
Dr. Husain is absolutely one of the best professors at South. He is an expert in his field and you will gain a global perspective from taking his classes. More importantly, he is accepting of all levels of interest and knowledge. He wants students to learn and to be able to take their knowledge with them beyond his class. Highly recommended!
One of the best professors at USA! He is a wealth of expert knowledge but is also personable, committed, and dedicated to teaching. He created an open, accepting atmosphere in the Muslim World class. You will get out of his classes what you put into them. Do the extra credit and/or an oral report, and you will be amazed at what you will learn.
terrible teacher and very biased
Dr. Husain is one of the best professor's at Univ. of South Alabama. He is passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches. Just listen to his lectures and you will be fine on the test. Even if you do poorly on the test, you still have a chance to get a good grade by doing his assignments. Overall he just wants you to learn and not stress. MV
Very knowledgeable about the materials. Dr. Husain repeats what he says so the material is ingrained in your head for test time. The test he gives is very long and extensive. If you happen to fail the test you can still pass the class by doing his assignments. His goal is to teach and make you learn and not to fail. Overall awesome man!
I DONT THINK I WILL BE MAKING AN A or a B in his class but he always encouraged me to learn and read unlike the other professors at south who don't care about the students. This professor is very nice. Take his class, he will help you. just take the online tests (also, the true or false) and in his website you can find a test that could come in you
I took him for freshman seminar, and you have to go to all the classes if you want a good grade. Class consists of just two guest speakers and thats it. You are required to write some summaries on each speaker, but it's not bad. Also, his accent is hilarious, and he doesn't mine getting made fun of, he also has some ridiculous analogies.
Dr. Husain relied on guest speakers for nearly every class. While this does offer varied exposure to the subject it left a lot of material completely not discussed. He was also very difficult to get into contact with outside. I felt like he didn't really care about teaching this class and gives out okay grades so that people won't complain.
Dr. Husain is an awesome teacher. Dr. Husain encourages students to discuss the material with him and students in class. I really enjoyed listening to his lectures because he makes them so interesting. I highly recommend Dr. Husain to anyone who needs to take a political science class.
I have taken Dr. Husain for three courses, and I would gladly take another with him. He is enthusiastic as well as very knowledgable about the material. He uses a variety of mediums to teach. He lectures, shows documentaries and encourages discussion. I recommend Dr. Husain for anyone taking political science classes at South.
Dr. Husain loves to teach and adores his students. He is very sincere in his work and whether you succeed in his class or not, you definitely come out with a great appreciation political science, and probably a few facts along the way. He will work tirelessly to help your succeed but you have to meet him halfway.
I had Dr. Husain years ago. He is a wonderful kind man. I found his classes to be a bit too easy and not challenging enough. But his is a wealth of knowledge and worth taking. You must work to get at that knowledge.
He is my all time favorite professor at USA. I have taken four classes with him. I would defintely take another one. He is a very knowledgeable man. He will also work with you to ensure you do well.
Mr. Hussain is a very polite and kindhearted man that gives you plenty of opportunity to voice your opinions. He obviously has his opinions too but he's fair about things. The work wasn't easy, but if you study you'll do fine. He's also good about helping you make it up if you fall a little behind. Overall, he's a nice guy!
I had Dr. Husain for both IS 100 and PSC 270. He is a very knowledgeable man who likes to teach. Do the readings and go to class. Since he teaches a lot of night classes attendance is mandatory and he will keep you the entire time. Do the Extra Credit or take home assignment and you will be fine. He is very helpful and cares for his students.
Show up for class and do the assignments that are due end of term and you will make an A. Don't wait until the last minute to write your paragraph about guest speakers. He will also include in your final exam (guest speaker comments).
He never really did anything. He had people come in and talk everyday. most times he wouldn't even show up. He's okay but not the best
Dr. Husain is a very nice guy who cares if you do well in his class. He has people from campus come in and talk every class so bring a notebook and a pen to take notes. You only get one assignment at the end of the year and it's about who gave a presentation and what did they talk about. Also, you have to write about 10 events you attended.
He's very challenging but he is extremely helpful. He grades more on your effort than your actual test scores. You must take notes every day and pay attention. A lot of people don't like him because they think he's too hard. I actually understand US foreign policy and the Middle East bc of him. Don't take him if you want an easy A.
I would say he is at least in my top three favorite undergraduate teachers I have ever had. He's like an encyclopedia full of interesting facts. He takes interest in every single student no matter how smart or interested they are in the subject matter. I wish more teachers were like him.
Dr. Husain is obviously extremely knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches. I think he realizes it is a lot to take in, and while the exams are long and cover a ton and are difficult, he does give amp opportunity to do well with extra effort in class and extra credit assignments. He is just a nice guy, and always tries to be helpful. loved class
Shows up late. Holds us late after because he never stops rambling. There are only 3 grades other than attendance: Midterm, Final, and critiques of documentaries. The exams are 200 questions with 2 essays. He accuses people of not reading the text if they can't recite the book's definition verbatim. There are over 500 terms per exam. Good luck.
His intention is to help you harness multiple perspectives, but does so w/o first establishing basics. He had the wrong bk ed. which made following the chapter-oriented syllabus irrelevant. Gives excessive amounts of outside info. Tries to burn up time (rambling) rather than just covering the necessary topics. Unaware of his need to simplify more.
Totally disappointed with this class, wanted so bad to learn. Dr Husain lectures were scatterbrained and off the subject. Grades on a curve and has to have extra credit, half the class would fail without. Very disappointed in this class and recommend another professor or university.
Very tough class, you will learn more in this class than all the rest put together. His tests have copious amounts of questions, everything he's covered. He gives everyone the opportunity to get an A. Loved every minute, It's nice to learn in his environment. Highly recommend all of his classes.
Dr. Husain was one of the best teachers I've ever had. Took 4 of his classes. The material is by no means easy but he does a great job at explaining what is important. The tests are somewhat hard but if you do extra credit and attend class he will give you an A. I learned a lot and definetely recommend him to anyone taking Poli Sci.
During my time at USA, I took at least 8 of Dr. Husain's classes. His tests aren't for the faint of heart, but you'll learn more than you ever imagined from his courses. His encyclopedic knowledge of the world is incredible. He's an excellent professor. Take as many of his courses as you can.
One of the best professor I have ever taken. He is a brilliant & funny man and has a very clear policy. He also gives his students many possibilities for extra credit. I did average on the tests, but worked hard on my other assignments & showed up to class, which got me an A. Grading is very fair and reasonable.
I took several courses from Dr. Husain. He is a wonderful instructor who loves discussing material with his student's outside the classroom. Also, he is very good at relating a lot of his material to contemporary issues. His lectures describe the material well, as well as clarifies the subjects, which in some cases can be very dense.
The lectures are long, and the exams are almost disturbingly long, but I absolutely loved the class, and the professor.
His final exam was the biggest I've ever taken. Nonetheless, I loved this class, as much as I loved having him for PSC 250.
Took him as a night class once a week, so attendance is somewhat mandatory if you want to pass. His test are long and very detailed, but if you do the extra credit, take home assignments, and attend class he will pass you with an A or B.
He only gives two test, but they are exceedingly long. However, if you pay attention, read the book, and participate, you will do perfectly fine.
I took more than 8 classes with Dr. Hussain some years ago in my bachelor's degree from USA. Later on I moved to NYU and to Harvard. Among all these years he is one of the teacher's who has always stick out in my mind when there is a practical diplomatic issue. Great instructor and I will recommend students to participate -grade will come.
I had around 7 or 8 classes with him. He was my favorite professor at South. He a very informative and insightful man. His test are demanding, but nothing that shouldn't be too much to expect and it is all relevant. He gives lots of extra credit as well. I am now a graduate student in geopolitics in Europe partly thanks to him!
Dr. Husain offers extra credit, make sure you do it! His tests are long (midterm was 150 questions and final was 250 questions.) We did not use the book so you have to take really good notes of what he says in class. He will call you out in front of the class. I passed this class because of the extra credit. If you show you care, he will pass you.
Absolute worst First Year Experience teacher possible. I would not recommend. It's a freshman seminar to learn about how the University operates. 25 reflections later, I have learned hardly anything. All this class has done has conflicted with my studies for classes that actually matter in the long run.
The only tests are the midterm and final. Participation counts toward your grade so you have to come even though he rambles and gets distracted. Lots of papers due at the end of the semester (12) but there is up to 15 points added to your final grade if you do the extra credit. Really sweet old man, but lectures can be boring.
Absolutely the worst First Year Experience class to take. Its hard to put it into words but expect 20+ speakers and 18 of them talk about study skills and how to get enough sleep. 1/10 I would have rather taken a class once a week for an hour and 45 minutes on watching paint dry.
Dr. Husain is a great professor because of his incredible skills as a lecturer and commitment to his students. Every class period is a wealth of information and his use of outside media like documentaries and guest speakers helps to engage students. If you put in the time and go to class he will never forget your name and help you succeed.
Thanks to the extra credit and value he places on class participation, showing up to class and being engaged in the discussion will ensure a good semester. Dr. Husain prefers long exams but everything is covered in lecture and pertains to the material!
I took four classes with Professor Husain, many of which came on the heels of the September 11 attacks of 2001. This amplified the importance of everything we were learning and exploring and Professor Husain was able to give us valuable context. He challenged our assumptions, stimulated provocative discussions, and grew our understanding.
Professor Husain's class on The Muslim World helped me better understand others' viewpoints, a valuable skill I've used again and again over the years. He provokes us to think outside the box and to question our assumptions. Always accessible, you get a sense as his student that he genuinely wants the best for you.
IS 100 was an eye opening course for me. Dr. Husain is a very knowledgeable and caring professor! Attendance is required, but it is not without purpose. Attending class, engaging in lecture discussions, and readings are essential if you are serious about expanding your perspective on global phenomenon. I highly recommend taking even if not IS major
This course is essential for the remainder of one's IS coursework. Dr. Husain provided an excellent overview of global political systems through text, lecture, guest speakers, and documentaries. He encourages attendance and discussion among the class. The tests can be long and challenging, but pushes you to learn this foundational material.
This is absolutely one of the best courses I've taken at USA. It challenges you to think from an unfamiliar perspective as you learn about how colonialism impacted the resources and culture of African countries. A handful of documentaries are watched and you are asked to provide critical written analysis. Great course and knowledgeable professor!
Dr Husain tries to foster the inspiration from inside his students. He lights the pilot, but it is on you to grow the flame. If you are willing to go where the lesson leads it can change your life. I think of him as a person you can bring up a topic with and he will explore your thoughts on it without telling you your opinion is wrong. Great Class
This professor was one of the best I've ever had. There was quite a bit of work, but he provided plenty of feedback and a huge amount of extra credit opportunities. I learned a lot in the class and would definitely take a class with him again.
This class is a 1hr class with two hrs of content, and his test was 122 questions on a poorly made test sheet. The test was not hard really with studying. He just needs to allow students to have a classroom clock. The scan tron also takes more time then normal, and having to read questions several times slows down the process. Make sure to rush.
I enjoyed his class this semester and he does work to fix situations that were not in his control. He is a solid expert in this academic field and he tries hard to get you the information from several sources.
One of My favorite classes. Dr. Husain described and contrasted different leadership qualities of major world leaders often interjecting little known insights into the character and actions of each of them that made the course extremely enjoyable. Extra credit oral reports were allowed and encouraged.
An excellent class on African history and politics. Using lecture and film, conveyed an insightful history and evolution of African politics through the years. Definitely provided a background survey upon which to pursue further study. Excellent class.
This was an excellent survey course on terrorism. Dr. Husain covered a lot of ground in describing worldwide terrorism and the groups identified as terrorist. There was an opportunity to do extra credit assignments. There is a wealth of data to absorb in this class and lots of outside reading is essential for a good grade.
Dr. Husain, hmm lets just say if you are hard at hearing his accent is not for you. At all!! If your a Poli Sci major you HAVE to take him for capstone
I really like Dr. Husain, however, his classes are always pretty difficult. Thankfully, he's open to extra credit, but make no mistake, he does make you work for it. His tests are always 100+ questions, so be prepared to STUDY. You can miss a few classes, but if you can attend every class, you should because he gives a lot of details.
I have taken two classes with Dr. Husain and I will be taking the third soon. I really like him as a professor and a person. Very helpful, caring, and genuinely interested in helping his students succeed.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Husain's class on politics of the Middle East. Very few people knows as much about the subject as he does. I have encountered few professors as passionate about what they are teaching as he is about the Middle Eastern politics and culture.
Dr. Husain is probably the best professor I have ever hat at the University of South Alabama. He does make you work for your grade, but he is fair in all that he does. Homework consists of watching videos online. Time consuming but easy. He is very kind and knowledgeable and interesting. Loved the professor. Loved the class.
This was my second time taking a class with Dr. Husain. He's extremely passionate about his classes. He really wants you to come out with a good grade. He always offers extra credit! He is lecture heavy and they can be pretty boring, but definitely show up. I always did other homework in class, two birds with one stone! Show up and participate :)
Great guy. I have taken many classes with Dr. Husain and he has been one of my favourite professors during my time at South.
