This guy is from India so he has an accent. He gets confusing and his methods of teaching have changed a little from the semester I attended to the semester after. His test were online when I was in except for the final. So the only bad test grade I got was the final. He gives plenty of extra credit but does not except it late. Assignments are ok.
He does have an accent, but it's not that bad. I took this class in the spring 09' when the test were in class and NOt online. I thought the subject was interesting. His test were reasonable if you study his slides. He did offer a lot of extra credit during my semester. I got a B+. If his tests are online, you should be getting A's!
You won't like your first day of class because he won't just read the syllabus, he'll expect you to introduce yourself and every other person in the class.
No need for the book. Tests are reasonable
His accent wasn't hard to understand at all. Attendance was mandatory in getting a good grade in the class, used clickers. Lots of busy work: discussion boards, pre-class quizzes, etc. 3 TIMED online exams, drops lowest score. 1 in class comprehensive final. Used the text book for discussion board, exams and final! Offers extra credit!!
Three timed Bb exams, drops lowest. Final cannot be dropped. I bombed two tests and didn't do well on the final but ended up with an A-. If you do the discussion boards, pre class quizzes and clicker quizzes you'll be fine. He has a good sense of humor and is very eco-friendly.
It seems like a lot of work because of all the discussion boards but just as long as you show that you put some effort into it you'll get full credit. I didn't do as well as I thought on the blackboard exams but if you learn from those the in class final exam will be a breeze. He gives plenty of extra credit because he wants everyone to do well. Over all very good teacher, you will learn a lot from him and he's very helpful so if you have any problems in class just ask him!
It has been an interesting semester with Environmental Health and Chowdhury is a good professor to teach it. He may not know everything, but he specializes in Air Quality. A lot of annoying busy work, but it's an easy way to get an A. Clickers will be used, BB exams, quizzes, and discussion board. He will generously help you!
I thought this class was going to be the hardest to get an A out of all the PH classes I took this semester but most of the questions on the final were from previous quizzes and tests. He's easy to talk to and is very passionate about the environment.
Bb discussion boards suck- get friends to rate you good. Book is a must for weekly quizzes
three exams, 10 in class quizzes (drops 2), group lit. review paper, group presentation, lots of clicker quizzes. overall a very interesting class and a good professor, knows his stuff. hope to take more classes that he teaches
I was really interested in the subject of climate change and health so I really enjoyed his class. His accent isn't bad at all, and he clearly states what to focus on when studying for exams. No textbook, 2 exams, and a group write-up/presentation. Make sure you get decent people in your group as this is a big part of your grade.
A bit busier compared to his other climate change class PH 496, but definitely possible to get an A. 3 exams, 10 quizzes (lowest 2 dropped). Attendance is mandatory, and he takes it using clickers, as well as in class clicker quizzes. No final, instead he assigns a group presentation/literature review on a climate change topic. Get a good group!
great class, very informative. Chowdhury really wants to teach his students everything he knows. Don't take the class for granted. Climate Change is a real thing and the science behind it is very enlightening. Participate in class, dont need text book, take good notes, and dont
Best professor in the MPH program. His classes are challenging, but you will get what you put in. He is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure his students understand the material and will succeed. Very approachable and will make you want to work hard.
He is a really nice professor. I was not interested in this area of health at all but he does what he can to make it enjoyable. There is quite a bit of studying that needs to be done for this class but it is manageable! Overall, not a class that should be failed by anyone
Love Dr. C. He knows his stuff and he wants to make sure you know yours too. Great class with a very organized professor. He actually cares about students which is rare!
Dr. Chowdhury is a very dedicated and inspirational instructor. He is very passionate about the environment and makes you appreciate what he teaches.
Great professor! Really nice and is well organized. I didn't care much about environmental health before this class overall enjoyed the class, learned a lot and would recommend to other students.
He was a great professor. There was a weekly quiz but it only helped to study for the exams. He is pretty understanding and willing to help. Attendance is mandatory, however you have 3 unexcused absences. Tests are pretty easy if you study (duh). Be prepared for group work at the end of the semester.
Professor Chowdhury is awesome!! I Didnt think I would like environmental health but he made the lectures fun and I ended up liking the class. I wish I had him as my professor for all my classes. I also enjoyed the sarcasm when students would ask dumb questions or try to argue with him to get him to change their grades. I'll miss him as a professor
He was a great professor. There was a weekly quiz but it only helped to study for the exams. He is pretty understanding and willing to help. Attendance is mandatory, however you have 3 unexcused absences. Tests are pretty easy if you study (duh). Be prepared for group work at the end of the semester. His class is fun and he makes it interesting.
Professor Chowdhury made it easy to learn environmental health. He was always willing to help students and made class fun. One group project but was pretty easy, Final was cumulative but the weekly quizzes helps you study for it. I recommend this professor and the class. Wish all public health professors were as caring about students like him!
Learned a great deal, and really enjoyed the class. Dr. Chowdhury gives a good lecture and a good overview of Environmental Health. Also, we had the final weeks before the semester ended so we could concentrate on group projects which was a fantastic idea. Would definitely take another class by Dr. Chowdhury
He's so cooooooooool. makes class easy to pay attention. tests are not hard. some questions are from the quiz. quizes every class.
Dr. Chowdhury gives great lectures that apply to all learning types. Good balance between words, visuals, and class participation. Quizzes and exams are to the point and test your KNOWLEDGE more so than numbersspecifics. Pay attention during lectures, you get a feel for which material is important. Such a humble and genuinely good guy!
Great professor, gives clear conscise lectures, easy to follow very interesting to the point
He takes attendance so you really can't miss class. His notes and exams are all very clear, precise, and to the point. The tests aren't easy but they are fair and if you study the power points, you will do great. He gives a group project and group paper at the end which is stressful so don't prpcrastinate. Overall, I really enjoyed this class.
Good class. Expect weekly quizzes! But not bad.
He was a very good teacher. Tests are pretty easy and self explanatory. Study the lectures.
One of the most helpful professors I ever got. Very compassionate about the environment which helps make his lectures interesting. He assigned 1 group project and presentation, and 1 group essay. Attending class is a must to pass the grade. Tests are straight forward if you study the lectures.
Great professor! Teaching with enthusiastic and funny. Exams are straight forward. Study the lecture and quiz you will be fine. It always a good idea to buy the book and read because some questions did come from the textbook. Got an A. Definitely recommended.
I really enjoyed this class! We had a quiz every week but he drops your lowest quiz and he gives extra credit opportunities. We had a group presentation at the end of the semester. Read all the chapters and go to class and you will do well. I learned a lot of really interesting information in this class! He seems very caring and understanding.
Readings really help with the quizzes. Some quiz questions may be on the exams.
Chowdhury is a likable professor! Quizzes every week, attendance is mandatory, four tests and one group presentation but all the material is clear and in his powerpoints. His tests can be a little tricky, just make sure to pay attention to even the smallest of details.
A very knowledgable professor and very fair in grading. You can tell he is very passionate about the topic. He is a valuable asset to the Public Health department. His lectures are informative and interesting. The class is not overly difficult but not easy, you have to earn your grade. Would love to take another class with professor Chowdhury.
Good professor, easy to communicate with. Lectures are helpful. Reading is 10% of tests. Didn't receive feedback so not sure if he gives good feedback.
Dr. Chowdhurry is a good professor. However, lectures are long, exams are tough and paying attention is key! Buy the book and read it if you want an A.! Overall this was amazing, he's very helpful and you can tell that he's very knowledgable of the material that he teaches. You are assigned 3 exams, 7 quizzes and 1 group project consisting of 8 ppl
Professor Chowdhury is very knowledgeable. He's very clear in his lectures on what he wants you to focus on and grades fairly. Tests can be pretty tough- keep up with readings. It seems like a lot but it goes by fast.
A pretty straightforward class. You can get a B just by going to lectures, and reviewing for the quizzes and tests, but if you want that A, definitely read the textbook as about 10% of test questions come from the reading and aren't discussed in lecture at all. He's not one to give anything away as far as study guides for the test!
One of my favorite classes i've taken at SDSU so far. The professor is straight forward and does not try to trick you. He wants you to succeed and does anything in his power to help you do so. Lectures are mandatory in order to do well in the class. The book was required. Overall a great class!
Professor Chowdhury was a great professor. His exams are hard, but if you read and follow with lectures you'll do fine! Take him!!
You need the book if you would like to get a B+ or A. Attendance is mandatory and a big chunk of your grade. he gives quizzes but drops one. Tests are a challenge but not impossible. Overall, professor is funny and clear on his material, he really know what he is talking about. Plus, the class is interesting!
Fair professor, good grade is achievable if you study!
Good teacher, the class is very do-able but you have to study and reach the chapters. His lectures are very interesting and clear.
There are quizzes every week, so don't skip lectures. His tests are a tough, but do-able. I I suggest getting the book and actually reading it for the exams and quizzes. Overall, this class was eye-opening. I would take another class with this professor!
There's a quiz almost every week so you definitely want to attend classes. Attendance matters so definitely show up to class as well. I suggest getting the book and reading it alongside with the lectures because 10% of the question on the exam correlate back to the book as well. The exams are challenging, but if you study enough you'll do well!
okay class: doable
Great teacher, quiz almost every week and book is needed for exams. Exams are hard but do-able. Topic of class was really interesting, would take another class with professor.
I absolutely LOVED Chowdury! He is definetly one of my favorite professors at SDSU, he is so knowledgable and inspirational! His tests are tough but fair, so read the book as well as look at the lectures, so helpful!
Dr. Chowdhury's class was my favorite. You can see how passionate and knowledgeable he is about his lectures and how much he wants the students to understand the material. It was extremely helpful to read the book after each lecture to guarantee you'll get an A of the quizzes every week. His exams are tough, but fair and he reviews them at the end.
Professor Chowdhury is a great professor. He is willing to help out the students and wants us to succeed. There's a quiz every week, but if you pay attention to the lectures and read the chapter assigned each week, you should do fine. There's a group presentation, but it's pretty easy and fun
Attendance is mandatory. Exams are ok (need the textbook to get a clearer understanding), we had a quiz almost every week but you get to drop the lowest score. Group presentation at the end of the semester. Professor is always there to help, answer, and clarify!
Dr. Chowdhury is very knowledgeable about environmental Heath! I learned a lot of valuable information. Attendance is mandatory!
This class is great and very interesting. Dr. Chowdhury is a very good teacher and I loved going to his class to learn about environmental health problems that can affect me and the world around me.
He is a great professor and great speaker. He keeps the class engaged through his lectures. Study the Powerpoints very well and read the book for the quizzes and exams. Overall, you gain a lot of useful and interesting knowledge about environmental health.
Class is good. He's a great professors. Exams are okay, just make sure to study the everything in the lectures and READ the book! Pay attention in class, he basically gives you an idea of what information is on the exam! Group presentation in the end so start that early. Also the final is before finals week which i loved alot
Professor Chowdhury is a great professor who was very knowledgable. Attendance is part of the grade so attend each class. There are quizzes every week and they are clear and not bad. Tests are tougher as there is no study guide so pay attention in class. He will verbally say what is on the quiz and tests and what is necessary so pay attention.
Tests will be tough if you do not read and connect material to lectures. I would suggest not cramming for quizzes and exams. Be on top of the information. Some lectures are interesting others are pretty rough to sit through. For the group project the most advice I could give is do not look at note cards.
Attendance counts so go to class. Book wasn't mandatory for an A, but he will ask questions from it. Most of the test questions come straight form his powerpoints. Gives very fair tests. Dr. Chowdhury is very knowledgeable and I would take him again.
Professor is very well organized and it is clear that hi cares about his students and his class. He makes his class fair, he requires attendance and gives quizzes. It's not an easy A but it is certainly achievable. Overall he is a great professor.
Overall, great professor. Very well educated in the field of environmental health. Passionate about his work and incorporates presentations to conclude the semester. Expect to work hard, just like any other course, and go to class!
Dr. Chowdhury is a great teacher and explains subjects very good, so that you can understand it. His class was very interesting and I feel like I learned alot.
Overall, I really loved this class! I looked forward to coming to the 2 lectures every week and found Professor Chowdhury's class to be super interesting. I learned so much from this class, and it has opened my mind to various jobs in the Environmental Public Health field. This class would most definitely come highly recommended!!
Overall I enjoyed the class and thought that the material was taught well.
Dr. Chowdhury is an interesting lecturer and cares about his subject. I highly recommend taking his classes.
The class is very interesting. As long as you listen to lecture and read the book the class is very easy to pass. His slides are very complete and helpful.
Attendace is necessary to get full points toward your grade. Lectures aren't too long, tests are challenging but not too bad if you study well. Easy A if you apply yourself and get to know the material. Can pass the class without reading the book and just listening/attending lectures. One group project and 3 exams. Final exam in end of April
Overall, I enjoyed the class. As long as you do the work and study for the exams, you'll do well. Great professor and the class was very interesting. One of my favorite public health classes so far.
Overall, I enjoyed the class. The exams are fairly easy if you read and throughly study for them. Chowdhury is a great professor, he really knows what he is talking about. He is very professional, which was refreshing because not all profs. are. He is very clear and concise to what he is looking for. Recommend. Would for sure take hime again.
2 Exams and the final is cumulative. One group project on a topic of your choice. Overall, if you read the book and go to class you will pass.
Awesome guy.
2 exams and a cumulative final. One group project. Quizzes every other week. Attendance is mandatory.
Good Professor, 7 Quizes, 2 tests and a cumulative final. Group project on environmental issue. Passionate about air quality.
This class was fairly challenging, you have to put in enough effort weekly with quizzes to stay on top of the material which helps. The book is critical when it comes to understanding the lectures notes more in depth. Come prepared and engaged to learn the material effectively!
He gives quizzes every week and gives you a good idea about what is going to be on them! Three tests throughout the class. One group project which he grades pretty tough.
Really great professor! Weekly quizzes and daily attendance. Quizzes and exams are pretty straightforward but know how to apply the information for scenario questions. He really wants the class to understand the material and is passionate! I would take his class again! Book isn't mandatory but helpful.
Professor is very knowledgeable on the topic. This class is not an easy A but is fair in his questions during quizzes and exams. Quizzes every week, three exams, and one group presentation. Choose your group wisely.
7 Quizzes drops the lowest, 3 Exams last one is cumulative. One group project, recommend you start it once you pick your topic don't leave it for the last minute and be wise in who you pick. Overall, the professor is straightforward on his quizzes, exams and what he wants in the group project. If you study the lecture presentations you'll do great.
Prof. Chowdhury's class was very interesting. He is very knowledgeable, his exams are tough but if you study hard, you can definitely get an A in the class. One group presentation, 7 quizzes drops 1. Drops two days of attendance, and gives extra credit points at the end of course. Book is required since some test questions come from it.
PH 304 with Professor Chowdhury was very beneficial to my knowledge on the environment. He is very passionate and sparked my interest in environmental issues. There are three exams, if you study the lectures well you will do fine. The final was a bit more difficult. One group presentation, and 7 quizzed with one dropped.
Great professor! He's really professional and knowledgeable on environmental health. Class requires effort and no slackin off. Definitely would take Dr. Chowdhury again!
Great professor, I learned a lot from this course! This course, however, is not the easiest thing you will take; you actually need to go to class in order to fully grasp the concepts. His tests are easy to follow/to understand; no confusion what's so ever because his questions relate to everything you learned from his powerpoints and the book.
Overall this teacher knows what he's doing but you really do have to study for his tests.
Great professor. He loves to see his students learn the material. Especially in the group presentation speaking without note cards is a plus. Quizzes are easy if you read book and go over lecture. Exams are a little tougher. Attendance is mandatory. I would take him again
Three tests and a group project. Quizzes every week. The final is in the beginning of April, and presentations begin after. That was really good not to have to worry about an exam during finals. I read the book, but he still asks such specific questions on the exam/quizzes which is unfair in some areas. You need to take really in depth notes.
Quizzes, 2 exams and one final and a group project. Attend class for points and read the text book and study the power points if you want to do well in class. Overall great professor that's clear on what is expected to do well in class.
Weekly quizzes that you will do fine on if you go to lecture and pay attention. Same goes for the 2 midterms and the final. Final is cumulative so you should give yourself maybe a week to review all the material. After the final everyone must present a group presentation, make sure to not only be informative but also creative.
Lecture is interesting enough to where you should not skip, as well as read ahead, and don't forget what you've learned previously. He highlights main points that are crucial in grasping content, which of course he tests us on. He does pull things from the book that may or not we're exactly mentioned in class. Just be a good student.
Overall a great professor, if you go to class and read the material you are sure to get an A. There are some challenging questions dealing with scenarios, but extra credit opportunities and studying is the key.
Dr. Chowdhury is very knowledgeable & passionate about Environmental PH. There's weekly quizzes that're fairly easy if you go over the ppt lectures & read the textbook. 2 exams & 1 cumulative final that're difficult but reasonable and a fairly graded group presentation. Attendance is mandatory! and definitely recommend reading the book!
Wasn't my favorite class but goes over interesting topics
You have to attend each lecture to receive points and a huge group project towards the end of the semester. Overall I really enjoyed this class!
There are attendance points taken every class and quizzes once a week. 2 midterms and 1 cummulative final. One group project. Chowdhury was a good professor he was clear about his exams and enthusiastic about his lecture.
Chowdhury knows what he's talking about, but the material was not interesting to me. He did the best he could to make it interesting. There were weekly quizzes with at least one question from the book that I never got right even when I read the book. You would have to literally study the book piece by piece for those few questions of the test.
Professor Chowdhury is pretty straight forward and if you ever had any questions he was quick to answer. He presents his lecture and gives a quiz once a week. The exams weren't too bad as long as you study. Everything is straight from the lectures. If you listen in class and study the PPTs you'll be fine.
Tests are fair, study the lecture material. Some material from the book (10-15%) tested on. Group project at the end. Super interesting lecturer. Really enjoyed his class!
Prof. Chowdhury was an awesome professor. I really enjoyed the class, I can't wait to take him for PH 452 and for the study abroad program for the winter break.
Good class! i actually really enjoyed it. Very fair, not too difficult. Understanding, easy going professor. You will know about the pop quizzes, they're fair & are based on the before lecture. Tests are kinda rough but not too bad. Never read the book although a few questions from the test come from it but not really needed, know lecture material
Professor Chowdury is straight to the point, but is open to help further explain if you need clarification for any assignment. Attendance is mandatory. Be prepared for group work since their is a final presentation. He goes over tests the following class day (can be delayed, it will be announced). You will need the textbook to receive all points!
Clear and straight forward professor. Interesting class! Group presentation at the end of the semester. Read the book, he adds some specific questions from the book on tests
I loved this class and professor! Very clear objectives, straightforward exam material and ample opportunity to do well throuh project and extra credit. Well rounded class and overall good experience.
He's a great professor! 3 tests, 1 group presentation, and a quiz every class. Don't skip class or you'll miss out on important information!
He is an awesome professor! 3 tests, 1 group presentation and don't miss out attendance because it count. Don't skip class because you will miss out important information!
Great class! Professor Chowdhury lectures are easy to understand and informative.
To me, the subject material was somewhat dry; nevertheless, Chowdhury was very knowledgeable, clear, and helpful. Tests were relatively difficult but largely fair. Make sure to base your studying off of his powerpoints--I always went too infomaniac and then didn't do as well. Wish I could retake it to receive a better grade and absorb more.
Dr. Chowdhury is an amazing professor! His classes are fun and the subject is very interesting. The class isn't hard if you study and read the book.
Show up to class and listen. You learn some very useful information in this class.
Expect a group project. Lectures are long. Be prepared to read the textbook. Quizzes at least once a week.
Professor Chowdhury is an excellent teacher! There are lots of quizzes in the class, but don't over think them! Attendance is not only mandatory and graded, it is necessary to do well in this class. The class is not boring and it is very informative. I would gladly take another class with this Professor.
Dr. Chowdhury is a very inspiring and intellectual professor. All of the information and course content is relevant to every day life, short and long term. Do your best to keep up with the syllabus/readings and pay attention in class and you'll be all right. He's a very passionate professor and it shows with how informative his lectures are.
Professor Chowdhury is wonderful! He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. You do have to study well for his tests but it is worth it because you learn a lot.
Professor Chowdhury is an excellent professor. His class is tough but if you put the time in to learn the subject then you will pass the class. His lectures are exactly to the point, as well as his reading. The test are pretty tough.
Professor Chowdhury's class is great! Very straightforward. If you go to class and read you will do very well in the class. He is also very helpful if you need clarification.
If you read the textbook or at least skim through it, and look over the lectures then tests will be pretty straightforward. It does help to attend class and plus he takes attendance, but he mentions what he wants to focus on. Overall decent professor very approachable.
He is a great professor, cares, answers all questions. 3 exams and a large group projects. Lots of reading, keep up, quizzes every week based off lecture and reading. Attendance is taken every class. Exam example: a-e, two of the above are correct, all of the above. Final was the hardest exam. I would take another class with the professor.
Chowdhury is cool! Straight-forward tests and quizzes. Group presentation was graded hard because he expects a lot of creativity. Made the subject interesting! Didn't really read the textbook that often, but was helpful anyways.
Although the book isn't mandatory in order to pass it can mean the difference in your grade
The class is tough but fair. The exams are from the book and lecture. There are quizzes each week, very simple if you attend class. He has a lot of knowlege and experience on the topic.
A good professor thats clear on what its expected. Tests are not tricky if you study. Don't delay to work on your group project.( A really good class!!!)
Can be a difficult class if you don't pay attention and don't study. Go to class for attendance points, study for exams, and final group project. No final!
Good class
Great class, but it can be difficult if you don't study and attendance is important!
This class is pretty easy, I've you've taken his other class you'll be fine on the information. Goes into a little more depth but nothing very complicated, you can use your textbook but most of exam questions are from his pp lecture. The group project is huge so put a lot of work into it and spend a lot of time on the report that's due at the end.
I really enjoyed Dr. Chowdhury's knowledge and continued support for every student. Exams were fair according to both the book and lecture material
The professor was a really good teacher. Exams are a bit difficult so you have to study hard (read the book and undertand lectures). The hardest part of this class was the group project---prof was very specific about it and you have to be creative.
He's great professor and he really cares for his students. Attendance is mandatory and you should read textbook to pass his class.
Dr Chowdhury is a great professor who is clearly passionate about what he teaches. In this class, your grade consists of two exams and a group project. No final! His exams are fair and mostly based off of his Power Points; however, you should read the book if you want an A. He's a nice guy and I really enjoyed taking his classes.
Study hard and pay attention to details from text and lectures. He is a great speaker and clear about his expectations for the class.
Groups projects can be difficult.
Two midterms and a group project/report. Expect to do a lot of research in order to get an A.
Very easy going and accommodating. Chowdhury is passionate about his work and what he teaches which makes learning about it all the better. Thought this class would be more difficult than it was, but Chowdhury gave you 85% of what you needed and the rest was effort you had to put it to receive the better grade. Overall, great class and great prof.
Be at class every day. Profess Chowdhury repeats key information, so listen!! This class is interesting and relevant to a Public Health field.
The amount of effort you put in will reflect your grade, so make sure to give it 100%. Everything is pretty clear cut.
Chowdury is a great professor. He is passionate about his work and really wants his students to learn. This is not an easy class, you will have to put in work to get a good grade but it is doable!
He was all right in 304, but in this class he lost a lot of respect. He wasn't organized and the material did not reflect what was written in the syllabus- it was more science based rather than emphasizing public health matters in the curriculum. His tests did not reflect what he went over and the amount of reading was absolutely ridiculous.
Must attend class
Honestly pretty good guy but unorganized and kind of all over the place. Lots of group work which no one wants to be apart of.
Very interesting class if you are interested in climate change. If you listen to his lectures you won't need to buy a book.
I took Chowdhury for both PH 304 and PH 452, both classes come hand in hand as 304 is a great introduction for greenhouse gases for the 452 climate change class. His teaching style is similar in both classes, 2 tests and a group project. In order to succeed in his tests READ HIS LECTURES. His MC say like "two of the above" and etc.
Prof. Chowdhury is a great professor, I took him for PH 304 & 452 and both courses were not the easiest class but it's also not the hardest classes. PH 452 is somewhat similar to PH 304 regarding the guidelines of the group project. Make sure you pay attention to his lectures & read the chapters on the book since that's a huge part of his exams.
Prof. Chowdhury' s was very fair & professional. He takes daily attendance, provides good lecture notes, 2 tests, and 1 group project. His test are not the easiest but if you put in time to study, they are definitely fair. The group project is a major chunk of your grade. He is an easy grader, gives good feedback and a lot of extra credit.
Two exams where most questions come from the textbook, but there are a few from the textbook so make sure you're reading. His exams make you apply knowledge so make sure you understand what you're reading. He's very passionate about the subject and makes it easy to get excited and interested. Strongly recommend.
Overall easy and respectable professor. A little unorganized with class material, but willing to compromise.
Two exams and a group presentation with paper. Dr. Chowdhury is extremely knowledgeable about the environment and its effects on one's health making lectures easier to take in. He makes you work for your grade by having questions specifically from the textbook on exams, so make sure you buy it since that will be the difference between an A and a
Super interesting class for PH students with an interest in Environmental health. Overall super fun course with reading and lots of lectures. Ask questions to get clarification on things you may be confused about. The 2 exams were on the difficult side, but not so difficult that you couldn't do well if you studied.
4/5 difficulty only for the reason that, if you do not keep up with and make an effort to invest in and understand the weekly readings and lectures, you will fall behind. Otherwise, Dr. Chowdhury is a very passionate, knowledgable, and hence engaging professor. Very accessible and understanding. Attendance is taken at random, but best to just show
Great Professor. Big group project and two big tests. Reading and Attendance is required to get an A. Helpful and approachable.
Dr. Chowdhury is a polite professor and respectable. he makes you work for your grade, but the tests are fair and information you need to know is apparent. as long as you put in the effort and study adequately for this class, you should do well
Chowdhury is a somewhat difficult grader, but pay attention in class and you should do well. he is very easy to approach, and understanding as well. homework assignments are minimal at best
Knowledgable professor. Group work is a must. Go to class, and change the world!
Changing the world, one student at a time. I enjoyed the class.
Professor Chowdhury is a fair grader and cares about his students. There are two exams and one group project that you will be working on throughout the semester. Attendance is required. Lecture material is a majority of what is on the exams.
Chowdhury is super helpful & approachable. He is a tough grader on the group projects. The 1st day of class he makes the class seem super challenging but don't worry it won't be too bad. Exams are challenging but multiple choice and as long as you study the lectures good you'll be fine. Climate book wasn't as helpful, but necessary for 3 ?s on exam
Professor Chowdhury is a great professor! PH 452 was extremely interesting, eye-opening, and comes highly recommended. There were 2 tests and 1 rather large group project and presentation at the end of the semester. Get the textbook! It really helps to clarify any material talked about in class! Overall, great class and professor!
Professor Chowdhury is very knowledgeable in the subject matter. He says you need the book to get an A, but you could still achieve and A as long as you study his lectures thoroughly. Two tests, a group project and a very fair grader. Would recommend this class.
Course is called Health Impacts of Climate Change and he only mentioned 1 health related effect throughout the entire course. He was out of town at the beginning so the syllabus wasnt made for WEEKS. Course was SAGE-style (aka the WORST). Group project was extensive. 2 exams- 1st was stupid & 2nd was fine because he allowed a cheat sheet. 0/10
Professor Chowdhury is one of the most knowledgable professors I have had in college so far. He is very human (fair) and absolutely hilarious; especially when you talk to him one on one. He was wonderful to study abroad with and anyone who needs a study abroad should consider the Winter Break India Program! Excited for his 304 class this semester.
Professor Chowdhury is respectable professor. He makes you work for your grade but he's always available if you need help.
Professor Chowdhury is amazing! One of my favorites at SDSU! I was able to take PH499 while studying abroad in India! The trip was amazing, and it was nice to satisfy two requirements in the span of 2.5 weeks rather than during the busy semester. I highly recommend taking PH499 abroad! It was an amazing time!
Dr. Chowdhury is a knowledgable, passionate, engaging, and one-of-a-kind instructor and mentor. Every personal, professional, or learning experience I have had with him and his courses have been very enlightening. He makes you work, but it is well worth it and prepares you for much bigger and complicated tasks and coursework. 10/10 would recommend.
Thrilled to have gotten to travel to India as part of this class. It was super busy with activities and assignments, but it was worth every minute of lost sleep. Personally I appreciated that we tried to squeeze as much in as we could. Dr. Chowdhury and Elizabeth are both caring and fun, and a pleasure to travel with. Remember APA rules on papers!
If you are looking for a faculty led study abroad program, Dr. Chowdhury's exploration of health, culture, and sustainability in India is a must. He is a highly respected professor who strives for success in and outside the classroom. His laugh is contagious, teaching style profound, and goes above and beyond to relate to his students. Go Chowdhury
Professor Chowdhury is one of the most amazing professor's I've ever had the chance to have. When I had him for his environmental class he was great. Yet, didn't know him as well until I took him for his smaller course of PH499 where we got to meet him on a personal level. He is a great man and really cares about your grades. He's hilarious!
Looking for a Faculty-Led study abroad program? your search is over. Hands-on Exploration of Indian Culture, Health, Sustainability, and Environment is a MUST! Dr. Chowdhury is a highly rated professor and respected in the school of Public Health. He is professional, funny and wiling to help students along the way. This program was AMAZING!
Professor Chowdhury is a very good professor. He'll make you work for your grade(which it supposed for masters degree) but he makes everything easy to understand. He gives good examples. He is funny. He's also good in giving extra credits as long as you participate in his class. Study hard for quizzes. I would take a class with him again.
He is one of the reasons why I'm furthering my education in Environmental Health. I took both PH 452 and PH 304 with him and I learned a lot. His lectures are very engaging and he really does make you work for your grade. Although his class can be difficult, he's always willing to help. I highly recommend taking his class.
I took Dr. chowdhury for 304,342, and one credit for 499. I got. B on 304 because his test were pretty hard, but I did learned so much. PH 342 and 499 I was able to obtain my A and kept learning :) I would love to take him again!!! Study the lecture and pay attention in class and you will do fine !
He is very helpful and his lectures are precise. Attend his class and get easy A! He gives extra credit opportunities within group projects. Follow his instructions on assignments and receive an A. Overall, good class to take and will receive an A.
I took him for ph 304 and 452! Super nice guy ! Really cares about his students. Side note: make him laugh during group projects on the creativity !
Really straight forward class! I really learned a lot. Prof. Chowdhury was a good teacher and grades fairly
Easy class as long as you study the powerpoints and understand the concepts. One group project at the end of the semester, two tests and quizzes. Drops the lowest scored quiz!
Dr. Chowdhury is a great professor. Thoroughly explains difficult concepts during lecture. Exams based on lecture and readings. Be sure to read assigned readings to get an A on his tests.
Will give many opportunities to do well in class. He is your friend not your enemy. Put in work you will be rewarded.
Dr. chowdhury is a great professor, he is friendly funny and organized. as long as you follow his instruction for the assigned readings and powerpoint you should do fine.
critical when it comes to group project
Dr. Chowdhury teaches PH 304 & PH 452. Both courses are set up similarly. I suggest you take PH304 first the class will be much easier. Ph452 has 5 quizzes, 2 exams, 2 writing assignments and 1 group project. Be sure to organize your presentation and make it creative! This is important! Tons of extra credit available throughout the semester
Chowdhury is an awesome teacher. He really gets to the point with what he is teaching and straight forward on tests. Sometimes he puts tricky questions, but youll be fine if you study. This is my second time taking a class of his and I would for sure take him again.
Good class especially if you are into climate change. 1 group project at the end of the semester. Overall an easy class if you show up and read the lecture slides. There is extra credit opportunities.
Ive had Dr. Chowdury for 2 classes and although he isnt an easy professor if you take notes, do the readings, and turn assignments in on time youll be fine. If you dont do the work you will get graded accordingly. Hes very knowledgeable and will take the time to answer questions as well as ask questions back to us to make sure we understand.
LOVE this professor, I would take his class again if he taught another one. He's super sweet and friendly.
Really easy class, Professor is nice and helpful.
Chow is amazing!!! Hes one of the best professors in PH at SDSU! Literally, show up to class and listen and youll pass with flying colors! Hes very clear lecturer. I only got a B+ because I didnt read instructions carefully on an assignment. HE LOVES TO GIVE EXTRA CREDIT in this class
Second time having him as a teacher. His material is tough, but he is always willing to explain if you're confused. Super nice guy! Go to class because lectures can be confusing. Very clear on his grading and there is an opportunity for extra credit within the group project! Would take this class again.
Took two classes with him, PH 304 and 452. He is a tough grader but gives many extra credit opportunities. Follow his guidelines exactly as they are and you will get a good grade! Tests are fair and recycles questions from quizzes. Try to make him laugh during your presentation. Really nice guy! Great professor overall.
Professor Chowdury is passionate and offers extra credit throughout the semester. Although he is a tough grader if you put the time into his class and the group projects you will be fine in his class. I would definitely take his class again.
I have taken two of his classes now and he is a really nice guy but his lectures drive me crazy. He does a good job out organizing all the information you need to know but the way he presents it and how he lectures is confusing, to the point where he confuses himself in the middle of lecture. He also doesnt use class time efficiently.
Dr. Chowdhury is one of the best professors in my opinion in Public Health at SDSU! I took his lower division class and continued to this class. The structure was the same and I like that. Make sure to go to lecture and pay attention for the 2 tests and quizzes, group project is important (1/3 of grade). Very helpful and kind to students
This class is somewhat difficult because it is a lot of material. However, Chowdhury is a really great professor and explains everything very clearly. This is the second class I've taken with him and I really enjoy him as a professor!
Professor chowdhury is a knowledgeable instructor and you can definitely see his passion in teaching. Ive taken both of his classes, environmental health (ph304) and climate change (ph452). Both classes include two exams, 4-5 quizzes, and a group project at the end of the semester. His class is well structured and lectures are easy to follow.
Professor Chowdhury is a pretty chill professor and gives extra credit throughout the semester. I took two of his classes and had no problem in them. There's 2 midterms and a group project instead of a final. He doesn't give a specific outline for it, but tells you what needs to be in the powerpoint and how many points everything is worth.
The textbook is not really required but it is helpful to go over it briefly for the exams. It is also helpful to use it for when you are working on the presentations.
I've taken this professor 2x. The style of how to study was not too clear for me even after the first round with him as a professor. The material given in lecture and the quizzes/exams are difficult to study for. I do like how kind and approachable he is. there is a simple group project due that requires you to incorporate high creativity.
Have taken him twice. His classes are an eye opener and show what our planet is really undergoing. If you are one of those people who do not believe in climate change, this course will definitely change your mind. Has one major group project. Quizzes every week or two, and two or three exams. Pulls a few questions from the textbook, rest is from PP
Professor Chowdhury is a great professor. I took him for PH 304 and PH 452. The class is really straightforward. For his 452 class, there were 2 tests, a group project, occasional quizzes and writing assignments. He is passionate about the material he teaches which makes it interesting. His climate change class was my favorite class this semester.
Professor Chowdhury is awesome. He is straight forward and tells you exactly what will be on the exam/quiz. If you study his lecture slides and read the textbook then you will pass the class. I barely opened the textbook and have an A. There is one group project at the end of the semester that he give you the whole semester to work on.
Great class makes you realize whats really go on with climate change -Make sure you know your APA format for all HW -two test and group project for final -the lectures are not hard to follow provides all information -read articles for tests
The class is very material heavy so make time to study the lectures as the exams and quizzes are based off it and worth a good amount of points. There is a group project towards the end where you have to be really creative to do well. Climate change is greatly emphasized in this course. Overall, I learned so much.
It was honestly a good class, he is funny and makes it pretty clear from the get go. My advice would be to stay on top of your homework assignments because they make up a pretty good chunk of your grade and he grades a little funky at times! There are quizzes every other week or every three weeks and those are based off the powerpoints.
All of the materials needed for the class are in his slides! Classes are always interesting and he listens well to the needs of his students.
Beware while quizzez homeworks and the presentations are easy he tricks and decieves you on the fiinal tells you to study something but he brings stuff that we had no idea what it was just beware
I feel like I learned a lot from Chowdhurry's class and I really liked his teaching style because he tries to get students to participate to review but doesn't force anyone to participate. His quizzes aren't too bad and you get to drop one. His tests are a bit tough but it is really helpful to read the book and go through all the lectures.
Very rude avoid this class if itss not required. The content is interesting but Chowdhury is very bland and boring. He never replies to emails and is dismissive when you approach him. Very unfair. 6 quizzes, drops 1. 3 tests, not too difficult. 1 group project be creative for this. he does not round your final grade at all even if you are .1 away
Long, droning, boring lectures. Poorly worded questions. A horrible group project. A disorganized syllabus which you are meant to comb through thoroughly to decipher what it is he wants. Truly an awful, awful experience.
Dr. Chowdhury is a great professor! He is extremely understanding and accommodating if you have any type of disability or difficulty. He makes his lectures easy to understand and very interesting. His class is challenging, but not too difficult to get an A. I would love to take another class with him!
Do not take this class for your elective. Choose any other classes that you can but not this class and this professor.
Poor professor, weak teaching ability with most lectures being just him reading off the slides or asking students to read off the slides.
I loved this professor! The subject is tough, but he is a great professor. He explains things multiple times and always asks if he can help. Group project is worth a lot and he's a tough grader, but gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. I would take him again! He is very sweet and cares about his students.
What a missed opportunity. Boring lectures. Dated info. Quizzes and exams that measure your ability to take tests. Questions lifted from the back of a book chapter for a 600 level course?! Poorly worded and confusing quizzes. Lab and project is a joke. Minimal thinking required or encouraged. Nice guy though...
I love him; he is so kind and understanding. I am currently in his class and had some health issues and he was very communicative and sympathetic. He also is extremely knowledgable and most of his classes have discussions. He does not assign any unnecessary work and always wants to hear from his students.
I really enjoyed his class. He has great communication. He replied to my emails right away. He gave positive feedback. I enjoyed watching his YouTube channel. Quizzes, Tests, and assignments are not difficult as long as you keep up with the reading. I would take his class again.
Professor Chowdhury is very caring and wants everyone to succeed. Class is very manageable and exams are straight forward. I highly reccomend him
Not a hard class but do the work. Pretty boring lectures, feel long. Teacher is kind but boring. Check the syllabus often (some classes are on Zoom or are for participation points). Weekly quizzes, you'll turn in your notes for a grade, tests are easy if your notes are good. Go to the EC opportunities offered in the beginning of the semester.
Professor Chowdhury's PH304 class is manageable if you stay on top of the work. The lectures can be dry, but engaging with the material and using resources like Unstuck study ai helps make it an enjoyable experience.
