The MT is rediciulous. 5 one page essays, 1 two page essay and 1 five page essay. She will dock big marks for not giving full detail and argument but good luck with the amount of time you have. Quiz questions are highly specific so you have to know details for these quizzes. If you aren't good at memorizing straight facts, find another proffessor.
She's okay. Be ready to write lots, she has 4 write-ups, a paper and two long answer exams. Not hard to get average grades if you attend class and do the readings, but good luck getting over. Generally sloppy lesson plans, random readings and topics.
I liked this class. Not hard to get high marks if you attend class, take good notes, and regergitate that information on the tests.
At first I liked her but by the end I can say she is terrible, she accused me of getting someone else to write my paper I also wrote it exactly how she said she wanted it according to the syllabus. I got high marks on all of her crazy amount of assignments and yet she still had the nerve to accuse me of cheating! STAY FAR AWAY!
Horrible professor. Bayatrizi hardly lectures-instead she shows a few irrelevant youtube videos and then has people sit in groups to discuss the readings during most classes. She's very awkward around students and isn't good at providing instructions for assignments. Avoid!
Worst professor EVER. It i s so evident the second you step into her class that she does not know a single thing about the topic she is pretending to teach. She rambles about nothing, her notes are useless, her class discussions are pointless. she spends most of her time dodging questions and misunderstanding students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Her lectures were hard to follow and her answers to question were never clear. The material is very interesting but she teaches it too poorly to fully understand. Tests were easy as long as you read the textbook and made sure you understand the concepts.
Really enjoyed her lectures. The discussion portions of class were especially interesting. I Recommend going to every class as she doesn't post her lecture notes from the class on eclass.
Easily the worst prof I have had to date. The lectures were disorganized and felt dialed in. Overall a very poorly executed, low energy, boring class.
She is very nice.
Doesn't post notes online so have to come to lecture for notes. Inconsistent when it comes to the content of the exams. First midterm was mostly lecture based, all MC, and was easy. Final was non cumulative but it was based heavily on the textbook and we didn't get a heads up. Final also had fill in the blanks with no word bank!
The lectures are what makes this class. Prof. Bayatrizi really broke down the readings for you to make them understandable and applicable. She related the content with present day. Much of her testing is based from her lectures! Love her test set up - 10 m/c, 2 short answer and a small essay. I would take a class of hers again.
Brilliant professor. As a teacher, she really wants students to think. If youre not up for it, thats on you.
Prof Bayatrizi was by far my favourite soc prof. At first I was nervous about the readings but she does a great job explaining. No final, weekly seminar and 3 papers. Her feedback on the essays also made me do better on my future ones. Seminars arent that much work just do the reading. 10/10 would recommend
She has powerpoint slides that she posts onto class but they are the bare minimum. Recommend getting the textbook because she doesn't do the best job of explaining things. Midterm is worth 50% same with the final. They tested specific things but were easy. Class average was 83% for the midterm and that's with 6 people getting a 0.
Overall I really enjoy going to her classes. She gave us key concepts in a Word document for us to study for midterms and final. Those concepts generally cover everything you need for exams. The midterm is all multiple choices and is fairly easy if you know all the key concepts. The final is a bit harder than the midterm but it is still doable.
She gives a document outlining the midterm key concepts, which is really helpful. Overall a clear, concise, and direct professor during lectures.
She made lecture really interesting! She only covered topics that she cared about out of the textbook. It was way better than just mechanically going through all 10 Chapters. She incorporates lots of interesting videos and there are 3 easy assignments that you just have to try on and you'll get 100%.
Overall, a pretty good prof. She always gave review sheets before the midterm and final and made the class interesting with lots of videos and other extra stuff, also she gave three assignments which were easy 100's.
There are three small assignments that are easy As. Other than that it is just participation (online) and midterm/final. She gave a study guide for the exams. She is quite clear on what she expects and during her lectures too. It would be a good GPA booster. There's an optional textbook but everything relevant is in her slides so dont bother buying
The course was ok, she taught the material. Really can't commit to her office hours though, and her TA doesn't respond to emails, so good luck if you have questions. Assignments are easy, midterm/finals are MC, but you should still STUDY.
Very nice! She taught well and it was an easy course overall.
I think she is an amazing prof. She is passionate about sociology and her TA is very nice. He gives good analogies that helps you remember and understand concespts. It is a great GPA booster. The midterm was so easy most of the class finished in 30 min the final was a little harder. I would defintly take it again. The assignments were easy as well
She's the best prof I have had so far, she really makes an effort to make the classes interesting and spends time on critical thinking and discussion related to the topic. If you show up to class you will pass, if you need extra studying material just read the textbook to help solidify the concepts. Very great teacher and very interesting lectures
She is a very nice lady. She explains concepts really well and is very organized. Her explanations to questions are really good as well. She's an awesome prof!
Overall a mediocre professor I'd say. I found her class to be a little all over the place. She isn't the best at explaining concepts, as she wasn't great at getting to the point. Often students would ask "So what does that concept mean again?" so that she would explain the main point directly instead of ramble on and on.
shes is sooo nice, although her her slides have barely any information on it you have to pay attention to the lectures to get the information. gives a lot of examples and gives really good exam prep
Dr. BayaRizi was a fantastic prof! In her class, you do not have to read a textbook and she only tests on her lectures. The class is barely any memorization and mostly open discussions on the synchronous Zoom calls to help you understand the material. Easiest class and professor ever but you will also get a lot of interesting knowledge out of it.
Okay, so I loved her lectures but I hated how she used the written assignment as a way to bring the average down. Everyone was really stressed out when they got their paper worth 10% of their mark back and saw a 4/10 or 7/10. Other than that, a very interesting course with pretty easy exams.
Her exams were non-cumulative and entirely based on things she said in lectures. Though you do have to pay attention to what she says and remember them, it isn't difficult to as she made learning sociology easy with clear examples and analogies. Her notes are bare-bones and there can be some confusion sometimes, but by far the easiest class I had.
SOC100 with this prof was definitely enjoyable. There is an essay, a midterm, and final. I personally found the short essay to be easy but graded very hard, but that depends on the TA. The midterm and final exam aren't super difficult but there are questions that will make you have to recall specific information. Overall, good class!
My sociology100 course was amazing with Professor Bayatrizi. There wasn't a flood of small assignments and quizzes so the course load was extremely manageable. There were two midterms and a final so very exam heavy but if you studied you would do well. Lectures were interesting and she is a kind and funny instructor. Would take again for sure.
Great Prof, I loved her class that I took online during COVID. Lectures are straightforward and she is clear about material that is tested on. The only assignment was marked very hard and we were not given clear instructions on how to do it so class average on it was very low. Over all she is a great teacher and the class was one of my favourites
Very good prof, applies a lot of the knowledge to real life. Explains things well with real life examples. The only downfall was the assignment - was not very clear. Regardless, pretty easy class if you listen and put in some work.
She was my introduction to SOC and it was such an amazing class that it is now my major! Great lectures that are applicable to everyday life and has very interesting stories as well. She is fantastic, take her if you get the chance!
It is clear that she is one of those profs who never took a teaching class, they just teach because they are a PHD. Don't get me wrong, she is very nice but she doesn't really answer any of your questions. She'll respond to a question, without answering it. She is very unsure in her speech. She doesn't really know what she's saying culturally.
Not a hard prof but the textbook is not required. Do not study off the textbook. Most of the test material is verbally communicated. If you rewatch her lectures, you will do well. This semester we could choose one assignment to do. The majority of the class only got a 6.0 or a 7.0 on those.
In the midst of Covid-19, the school has increased our workload in response to the reduction of exams. Students have vocalized their burnouts and was met with a apathetic response. We held a poll on what we would like changed in the class, spent 40 minute discussing it, only for her to make no changes.
The lectures weren't very helpful at all. Time was no used appropriately. Group "discussions" were useless. Having 50% of your mark dedicated to a final was not very well received. Difficult topics weren't explained well.
Hard yet amazing class. This is a senior theory course. Do not expect the prof to explain everything in seminars b/c they're only meant to supplement YOUR OWN independent text readings. You really need to be committed in this class b/c there's so much to read. Reach out during office hours and DO NOT LEAVE EVERYTHING TO THE LAST MINUTE.
This class wasn't very hard, as long as you knew the material and attended class you were sure to pass. I used the textbook to solidify all the concepts but it was not mandatory. Although there was some confusion with the tests she listened to our feedback and adjusted accordingly.
Was an awesome prof who actually cares about what her students have to say and tries her best to make sure her students succeed in the course. Make sure you pay attention in classes as most of the tested material is verbally presented and not on the slides. Midterms and final are easy if you pay attention. Would recommend for intro sociology!!!
Dr. Bayatrizi is a really amazing prof. Her lectures are interesting and fun bc she moves between lecturing, telling stories, showing videos, and discussing very simple papers to keep the class engaging. Take notes because you NEED to know what she says, if you do you'll be fine (dw because she talks slowly, you can easily take notes and succeed! )
Humanities have never been my strength, but Dr. Bayatrizi made Sociology extremely interesting and fun! The final was non-cumulative but beware of the written assignment - there are no redos so make sure you start early and pick the topic you are most interested in.
Dr. Bayatrizi was alright. Even though I did well, the first two tests were written poorly, and tested less for understanding and more for whether or not you could decipher trick questions. Grading scheme was also weird; 3 short tests and one 400 word essay, each worth 25% of your mark. As a lecturer she was okay, but not much more than that.
The tests were poorly written and she admitted to grading the final essay harder than usual because the class did better than expected on the multiple choice portion of the final exam. She goes on many long off topic discussions that wastes learning time.
Dr BayatRizi was a super nice genuine professor. Unfortunately, her class was a LOT of work. All of the readings you are tested on are read on your own time, and her slides give barely any information. If you don't regularly attend classes or watch her lectures, you won't retain anything. Her tests are also very vague & filled with trick questions.
amazing professor, such a kind prof with great lectures. it was always very clear what she wanted from us and what would be covered in the exams, and the exams didn't throw curveballs or anything like that. overall a class that was set up to ensure the success of its students provided they put in the effort (attend lectures lol)
I took this class because it is required for my degree. The course is supposed to teach critical thinking, but it felt more complicated than needed. There were three quizzes with ten easy multiple-choice then short answers and written. The writing was hard, and you must provide everything about the theories. The class averages were never high.
never practice, only exams
She is a really great professor and makes her class super easy to pass. Show up and take notes on what she says and you'll do great. Her tests are pretty fair and she makes clear guidelines for what will be on the tests.
Dr BayatRizi was one of my favourite profs I've had thus far. Her lectures, while long, are very entertaining and easy to follow. However, if you don't go to her lectures and take notes, you won't know anything because her slides have no info on them. There are also multiple required readings that you are tested on that she wont go over in class.
The slides provide little to no context. Attendance isn't mandatory, but without coming to the zoom lectures it would be difficult to understand the material on your own. Majority of the information was from her own words and perspectives. Overall confusing as there are so many topics covered & very little time in class to discuss & ask questions
Slides are bland and consist of little information. Midterms are worth 45%. Would not take again.
Nothing has made sense in this course, it was supposed to be contemporary but everything we've read is incredibly old and i don't understand the terms in the readings and there was no info on these terms anywhere else. powerpoints are short, little info, everything she says needs to be written down basically. everything is 30% of grade.
Her slide decks are unclear (sometimes even distorted by images) and the live lectures she tests on, were very subjective, and hard to sit through. She refused to post these online after the learning transition from online. Soc 100 was meant to be a mark booster which taught the basic principles of sociology. 90% an A. Class average was 74 (B-).
She was a very difficult grader as many dropped the class within the first week because of the unattainable grading scale that she used. She is also very inconsiderate as she was unhelpful in emails and refused to help students out with any grading, as the grading scale was changed because many failed the final, but many still failed the course.
bruh prof, bruh grade scaling, bruh subject DONT TAKE AS MARK BOOSTER OR ANY OTHER REASON bruh
I took this class as an easy GPA booster and instead it was my worst class this year. Her grading scale is completely unfair, a 99% for an A+. Your grade comes from your midterm, final and a group presentation. Her lectures are boring and scattered and are your only thing to learn from other then her slides which are even worse. Wouldn't recommend!
Very interesting class! Focuses on her expertise: death and dying. Loved the material with great group discussions. Group presentations were stressful, but not hard to get a good grade if you made them visually appealing. Hardest thing in the class was the TA, who was a tough grader. Zohreh is a fairly easy grader herself! Final paper, no exams.
Overall, a sweet soul but her teaching is absolutely not it. Slides were dry and it became a hassle to have to fill in every important piece of info. The grading scale was heavily unfair as her previous class average was too high so she decided to make a 99% and above equivalent to a A+. Run.
Very enjoyable introductory sociology class that I took online. Lectures and readings were a little bit dry due to the material, not the professor. Not a heavy course.
Overall okay. Was a nice person who clearly enjoys teaching the course, but concepts were so easy that the MC exams were comprised of many trick questions as to lower the grade of the class. There are better profs out there, so I would avoid.
Prof was very nice but her teaching methods are very boring, scattered, uninformative, or so painfully overexplained it becomes confusing. Her slides are next to useless as they provide very little to no information and mainly consists of photos which she discusses in class. Also 99% for an A+? That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard.
Scattered teaching, useless slides with no information, if you skip class you will not pass the course. She was a very interesting teacher but she rarely talked about course information. She is an amazing person, hilarious in class. Just very difficult to learn from. The quiz and midterms make no sense.
10/10 sense of humor! There's a lot of optional readings and one group assignment where participating in your groups discussion was mandatory. It was a bit hard sometimes to know what to study but overall the concepts were pretty straightforward.
This Professor was amazing !! she was super funny and very kind. The material covered in this class is kinda boring (but straightforward), however, she makes it a lot more interesting by tying it to personal examples. I'd definitely recommend taking this class.
This prof relies on a super heavy midterm (40%) and final (45%), which are difficult imo; many subjects are subjective
I found the course difficult to follow as slides are disorganized and contain very little information. Lectures are mandatory but very long and boring. Exams are weighted a lot (midterm 40% and final 45%) and questions are overcomplicated and difficult to study for. Professor Bayatrizi is a nice and funny person but would not take again.
Most disorganized prof ever. Lectures are so boring, slides are useless. She posts nothing on eclass, every study guide/exam prep was created by previous students. She seems to like teaching this course but she passes everything onto TA's and has no idea what's going on with her own class. Would never recommend
Professor Bayatrizi may be funny and have many jokes lined up on her slides... but honestly who cares, I am trying to get a good grade, and at the end of the day that humour does not matter. Her slides are straight forward but there are many of them and many things to keep notes on, but the tests literally quiz you on different stuff - no mi gusta
Overall, its a good class, Prof. Bayatrizi is very kind and super funny. Lectures are important because the slides don't include much information, and lectures are usually interesting depending on the class discussions. Tests and exams are often over complicated for easy topics, its a lot of trick questions. The class pacing is good.
Overall a good intro course. Material is fairly straightforward and can feel a bit dry at times but topics are broadly interesting. Grading scale started out very harsh (99-100 for an A+) but was adjusted to something more reasonable after the midterm average was mediocre. Prof. BayatRizi is very friendly and does her best to engage with students.
This course is insanely easy if you put in a minimal amount of effort. Everything tested on can be found within the slides provided. 85% of the grade is determined by the midterm and final, and there are resources that outline every concept on each. Prof. BayatRizi seems to enjoy teaching this course, which is a bonus. I would 100% recommend.
This class is pretty easy if you put the work into attending every class. Her slides do not have a lot of info so you must come to class in order to do well. Otherwise she is very funny and I liked her style of teaching, encourages class convos too.
go to her lectures, she teaches everything there.
Her lectures are hard to follow unless you're completely locked in to what she's talking about. Her slides are also bland and unhelpful a lot of the times. Also assigns a group assignment where you do a reading and answer questions, but then you're tested on the readings that other groups did??? The tests themselves are not that hard still at least
She was good, there was barely anything to be graded on though so if you find it hard to understand, then you will not do well.
Would NOT recommend her. Her lectures were the boringest lectures I have ever been to. If you don't attend you will not do well because her slides have almost nothing on them. She speaks too slow and seems to lose her train of thought halfway through some of her sentences and talks about the most irrelevant information making it hard to follow.
Overall, the class was okay. The slides contain little to no useful information, and I constantly fall asleep during her lectures. They're so dry, and sometimes, I don't understand the point she's making. The one thing that helped me understand the main points was her TA Aidan's note packages.
473-genuine, kind, and funny prof. The class/seminar itself was hard. Such an abstract topic, readings were dense, made you feel jumbled. BUT, exams reasonable+given straight forward study guide made it easy. Final paper 40% was graded bit tough, but overall forgiving prof. Participation/attendance 20%. work for your grade typ class but manageable
Does not give you her email address. Does not want you emailing her. Pulling down the big bucks but we are not important enough for her to spend time answering our questions. You have to go to office hours in person if you want to ask questions. Otherwise just ask the TA. For this I'm paying $7k tuition?
Her slides just have pictures and barely any information she shows pointless videos. Puts all the work on her TA and doesn't do anything herself. Doesn't provide her email so its like she doesn't wanna do her one job like you're getting paid to teach and you put all ur work on TA's and talk about the most random stuff ever? Worst prof, can't teach
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The classes are useless, the slides offer no help, and you're left to teach yourself everything. You won't learn anything, yet the midterm is 40% and final 45%. Lectures are boring and pointless. Avoid this class if you can.
Lectures and notes were useless + she relied on the TA for everything. She doesn't follow a textbook so its difficult to know what to study. Her TA writes notes for us and they were the only helpful resource. She has 7 quizzes in the year, but she only takes the first 5 you complete - NOT THE TOP 5, the first 5, which is such a strange way to mark.
The prof was very knowledgeable about the class subjects and made class so entertaining and engaged with the class. If you show up to the lectures, and take notes the exams will be easy. There were three tests, each were non-cumulative, and there were 6 assignments total, so a lot of opportunities to boost your grade.
Journals & quizzes 5% each-mainly completion grade, no feedback. Midterm & final 45% each. Relied on TA for most of the course. Slides were useless, only help was the TA's lecture notes. Test questions were sometimes worded in ways to mess you up, could be very confusing. Lectures were pretty boring & ended up just teaching the course to myself.
She does not explain ideas fully. She is a great person and very kind but relies solely on the TA, and tests were not always what she discussed in class and were very hard to follow.
This class was one of my favourites, its a topic that isn't a very entertaining one, but she made it entertaining. Very engaging with the class and class discussion helped elevate understanding. Gave opportunities for bonus marks, and was very clear with grading criteria as well as gave us review days and review sheets for the midterms and final.
If there's any rating you're gonna read about her, it should be this one. Grading is tough, you do essay questions for each midterm. There's multiple choice questions, they ultimately don't matter. PLEASE keep up with your assigned readings (don't skim, take notes), go to seminars. She's a good lecturer, definitely not boring. Study! Good luck.
I was really looking forward for this class and the topics were interesting but I didn't like the way she teaches, very confusing and hard to understand because of her thick accent. The slideshow is no help, she gets sidetrack most of the time, it's unorganized. there's only 2 tests but they're both 45% each. 10% is for quizzes.
She's awesome! If you get the chance to take her class I recommend it tenfold! She makes her lectures engaging and gives examples that help you understand the material better. Even when she teaches dryer material she makes it engaging and makes very insightful comments to help you understand. She is extremely easy to follow and to understand.
She's hilarious and try's to interact with her class as much as possible. As long as you read her PowerPoints and lecture notes you're guaranteed a good grade.
She's pretty funny, but lectures are boring. Both slides and lecture notes get put online, so there isn't much reason to go. The quizzes have mandatory attendance, but that's about it
Bayatrizi's class was awesome, she is pretty funny and her classes are engaging. She loves doing class discussions and playing videos in lectures. There were three tests and a couple super short quizzes. The tests were genuinely easier then high school. If you show up and study a little bit before a test you will get 80+ almost for sure.
I love this woman, she's very easy to ask questions. If you frequently miss class hope you get a good TA who will take detailed notes because her slides are more for her to recall what shes talking about. Easy noncumulative midterms.
The material is very surface level and the lectures aren't very entertaining but it's important to keep in mind that this is a 100 level course. Had 7 quizzes on readings 2-3 pages, your lowest 2 marks get omitted. 2 non-cumulative midterms and a final. Exams are very easy, she posts lecture slides which cover everything. She keeps it light, fun.
Zohreh was an amazing professor. As a first year in her first semester, this was by far one of my favourite classes. If you can take this class with her, DO IT. Her and the TA were both funny, yet informative. Her quizzes based on readings were awesome grade boosters and her exams are exactly on content. Easy to follow, and engaging!!
Very friendly and understanding of any situation. She is engaging and overall an amazing prof. Tests were easy, and she allowed us to drop the 2 worst marks out of 7 tests. Midterms were short but answers are really easy to know if you read her lecture notes which are super engaging as well. I skipped like three quarters the semester and did fine.
Best prof ever. Lectures were fun and encouraged participation but it is not mandatory. Every class has in depth lecture notes that essentially explain every concept to you in depth (if it's not in the lecture notes it's not on the exam). exams are not cumulative including the final and are so easy with the lecture notes and common sense.
Great class! Would recommend
