Took his class during winter session. Extremely difficult.
He is helpful in that he provides the students with many resources (power point presentations, reviews on-line) to improve their understanding of the material. He is challenging but not unreasonable. I find him sexy.
You have to study all of his notes, then the exam will be very easy.
This class is very challenging and the exams are very difficult. The professor provides many real life examples, but they are very challenging. The professor is very knowledgeabe.
Extrememely difficult subject! He gives a lot of resources, but doesn't apply them to real-life business situations - just gives the facts. Nice guy and funny with thick German accent. It didn't help that I took this in intercession.
This is the hardest class/teacher I've ever taken. He is impossible to understand and follow because he goes too fast and doesn't care if the students learn or not. He knows everything about stats and expects the same from you. DON'T take him!
Reading the book before class is a must. This professor moves fast and he is hard to understand at times. His tests are difficult but not unreasonable.
SUCKS!
If your good at math then then his class is easy. If not, good luck and study hard. Everything is on powerpoint so if you miss class you can still get everything off his website. At first he is hard to understand because of his accent. You get used to it.
I had him for honors and he was tough, but he gave a generous curve and allowed us more time to finish the exams. He is not unreasonable, but he is very difficult. You decide.
Hard subject matter. He gives a good curve but still really hard exams. He does try really hard to help you though
the worst teacher ever. i did not understand him or what i was supposed to do in class.
I asked this professor a question about the course material and some of the problems. He was very unhelpful and rude.
Huge accent. Has a huge curve. 75% would be a B and 65% is a C. Exams are hard. You have to go to class to do well on the exams.
Very hard to understand, he does have a hugh curve but test are so hard without it everyone will be getting D's. No need to go to class teaches totally different materials versus exam.
The subject itself is very difficult. I do not recommend taking the online class. You have to be willing to spend a lot of time teaching yourself the material, which is hard to do with this class.
Stat is a difficult subject and this guy doesn't make it any easier. He makes the subject seem easy by doing easy problems in class but test itself is very difficult and very different from HW or class material that he covers. Has an accent, class GPA 0.8
This guy sucks
I will always remember him by his quote: "I do not change my accent; you change your ears." I did so poorly I bribed him with a $20 on the day of the final (which he turned down). I passed with a low C; the entire semester was a blur.
He is very, very smart. He made the powerpoint for the book and knows his stuff. I got a C in part A and a B in his class. If you show that you're interested and trying hard, he WILL help you. Do the HW in advance and go to all the lectures. You'll learn alot.
I don't know how I passed with a C in this class but I did. The whole semester I did about 3 HW problems, his curve is GREAT! Tests are very hard!!! If you do good on the first 3 tests you don't have to take the cumulative final!
During the time that I was taking this course a guy from one of classes heard I was taking him & told me to drop him because he fail 1/2 his class. I didn't drop the class & I learned the hard way. He failed 1/2 our class too. Don't bother depending on his exam reviews because every review given has nothing to do with the test & it will not help yo
His accent makes it difficult. Throughout the class, all you want to do is pull your hair out because you honestly think that you're losing your mind. But at the end of the semester, you realize that you're a better person for sticking through it. Show him that you deserve the A and earn it. I got mine.....and lost a few braincells in the process.
Hard to understand his accent. He may also try to make the material harder than it is. He is a very bright person; which, may cause him to think everyone know what he knows. He doesn't like questions. Nice curve, but you would probably be better taking someone else.
HE MAKES YOU WORK YOUR BUTT OFF TO PASS, HE KNOWS WHEN YOU ARE GIVING A SOLID EFFORT, MAKE SURE HE KNOWS THAT YOU ARE SEEING A TUTOR AND DOING THE HOMEWORK (IF YOU ARE) IT WILL HELP YOU IN THE END.
Goldstein Rocks!
Very helpful and willing to answer your questions. He is a good teacher.
He is a good teacher, He will explain something two or three times: and if you do not understand he is very willing to explain it, however after the third time- do not ask unless you want to be embarrased, generous grader, option to take final
I wouldn't take him. His accent is kind of hard to understand. His tests are pretty easy, but his lectures are so boring and not that helpful.
Very unclear, unhelpful, discriminatory, and uncomfortable to ask questions.
if your average grade for first 3 exams is passing...you do not need to take the final! i only went to class to take the exams and got an A+. just do the assigned homework problems and printout the powerpoint slides and take them to class on exam days. his exams are similar to the homework problems and there is extra credit on the exams.
nice guy who will help you if you ask. 3 tests and an optional final if your grade is good enough. riduculous curve: my test scores were 95,75,62 and i ended up with a B+. i didn't open the book but i heard he takes an occasional question from the book and puts it on the test. dont fall asleep in class or he'll pick on you the rest of the semester!
HE IS A FUNNY TEACHER. HE TRIES TO GET THE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE TOPIC. IF YOU DO THE HW (WHICH IS NOT MANDATORY BUT YOU SHOULD DO IT TO KNOW THE TOPIC) AND TAKE NOTES YOU'LL GET A B. THE CLASS IS OPEN NOTES. HE ALSO GIVES STUDY GUIDES WHICH ARE HELPFUL BUT THE TEST USUALLY IS DIFFERENT.
Teacher is very difficult and strict, his accent is not that bad but still makes it difficult . Teachers worst point is the amount of time he gives on Exams, Especially during his final, if your taking his final, make sure you do well on at least one of the tests, or you will not be able to finish the test. I only finished 2/3 of it. Fail.
Far from easy to pass this class. Whatever you do make sure you pass at least one of the exams or else you're up the creek. He is very generous with the partial credit though. This class is very hard no matter who you take.
This professor is cool, I mean he wasn't earthshattering or anything, I got a D first semester and re-took it and pulled off a C the second. It's important to take in EVERY bit of notes you can, and know how to use them quickly. Overeall I'd rate him a C+
can hardly understand this professor. Large accent, low tone of voice, very unclear, unhelpful, and definately would not recommend. take kapoor instead!
Speaking and writing is almost incomprehensible. These symbols all look the same in his writing: alpha, delta, sigma, d. I get nothing from attending classes. Doesn't know how to use new computer system. Rude and unhelpful. Quote: "If you don't plan to get a Master's, you might as well quit school right now." Inspirational. Only good: slightly funn
Horrible teacher. Cannot understand. Big ego. Talks fast and makes you feel stupid if you don't get it. Don't be fooled by the grading scale it does NOT help! Lectures are very unstructured and unorganized. Unless your a stats. major and can teach yourself drop out of this class. If it is the only open section, wait til next semester. WORST TEACHER
he is not bad of a professor. yes he has an accent and his lectures are not that clear, but if you read the text you won't fail. Plus the guy practically gives you a chance at the end to retake the sections you didn't pass. If you can't even pass that, then you shouldn't be business.
Hard class. Good thing about him is that he lets you retake the tests you fail in the final. Tests are completely different than the hw, verrrryyy hard! Hard to understand sometimes and jumps around. You have to do hw to keep up. I got an A, so its not impossible. Really have to teach yourself.
none of the lectures had anything to do with what was on the tests. tests were not based on real-world examples and left many questions open to try to figure out what was being asked. do not be fooled by being able to take home a test, he makes them more difficult and takes you a week to do them. Very unfair instructor. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
I liked him. There are 3 tests and you have to get a 60 or above not to take the final. But you can take the final if your grade needs it. I got two b's on the first 2 tests, and failed the third test. So i had to take the final...got a 100 on final which gave me an A in the class. It's a lot of material, but study and you will be fine.
this prof. is horrible! you cant understand a word hes saying most of the time, and his lectures are almost useless. if you ask questions in class hell make you feel like an idiot the rest of the semester.he actually says "i don't want to answer anymore questions, im gettin mad." and he was. Avoid him at all cost unless you like to teach yourself.
Dr. Goldstein is a good teacher. He sincerely cares that students understand the material if you appear to make the effort yourself to want to learn. He cannot read your mind, so if you don't understand, ASK ASK ASK. At most, he can give you some hell for not paying attention the first few times, but embarrasement is cheap to retaking course!
Ok i dont understand all these bad reviews. I took him over the summer for isdsA and let me say he wasnt nearly as bad as i anticipated. the poor guy trys his best to make a boring subject interesting and he gives a lot of examples. he walks you through problems step by step and even shows u shortcuts using excel. study and ull be fine!!
Hard to understand and assumes you remember everything you learned in previous math classes. Does not take the time to make sure you comprehend anything. Once you get on his bad side he is mean to you the rest of the semester. Be ready to teach yourself.
He is a nice person. He has accent. He is not that good at teaching. Anyway he is not a tough grader.
Exams are totally different animals compared to the homework...If you are taking the class with him, good luck...study hard~
I took him during Summer 09' session. It is a hard class but Prpf. Goldstein helps students and makes sure they understand before he moves on to the next subject. He even helped me with personal decisions and motivated me to continue my Master after my BA. So, he is a great professor and a great person as well. Ask for help and he is always there.
Just received my grade for the summer 361B. I got a C. I didnt think i deserved a C, since I did pretty bad in all three exams. He averages 3 exams and if you get over 60, you pass. He is intimidating at first, especially to the girls. However, once you look past that, he is genuinely caring for his students and he will go the extra mile to help.
The prof.'s tests are not at all based on what you learn, tries to confuse. Teaches to a few ppl in class who get what he's saying, others are lost and he still doesn't seem to get it! Avoid if possible, not recommended if your a person not great at Logic/critical thinking/Math.
Good teacher...inspired me to maybe take a more advanced stats class for forecasting or something...not too tough, test grades are fair. Show up to class, take notes, do the homework and you should have no problems passing.
Though the material and lecture were enjoyable to me, his tests are extremely hard. Simply doing homework problem will probably net you only half the points on the test. His tests requires you to think above and beyond practice material with very limited time. (Though he grades easier than others)
I have to take back my previous comment on easiness of the 514 class from 12/18/09. Though the test is hard, his grading is extremely easy. I know I didn't do half the test right and I still just received an A.
Avoid him if you can. Nothing about this guy is clear:talking, teaching, testing...If you have to take him, you will be better off reading the book and doing the work all by yourself.don't bother showing up in the class!
Here is my answer to the previous comment from the one who did not know how he/she got A when half the test was not done: He liked you!that's all!
Homework not required or graded, BUT YOU MUST DO IT TO PASS THE CLASS! You cant afford to be lazy and expect to cram at the last minute in this class. You have to keep up! If you do, its a pretty easy class. Tests are open book and excel based and are written in blue books so you get credit if you show work even if answer is wrong.
I took his online course for isds513. HW was assigned but not collected, no projects & only meet to take tests. He did hold review sessions and go over past exams. I thought the exams were fair but seem like a lot of ppl were having problems. I recommend his online course if you are good at math and don't want to waste time sitting in class
Very hard class. Very big accent. Does like to answer questions if asked more than once. He gets frustrated easy if students do not understand but NO ONE understood him! The final was ridiculously hard no one in my class finished the whole thing. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
There were only 9 of us in the class and thanks to Dr Goldstein, it was not cancelled. This class is not easy, but as long as you do the homework, you'll be fine. He gives you everything you need, so don't buy the book. We had 3 take home exams, which do take a long time to finish, but it's better than having a in-class exams. Take him, he's nice.
I'm going to miss this class. Prof Goldstein is the man. He's been through a lot and he knows how to teach. I don't understand why people are bashing him. Do the non-graded homework, come to class, pay attention, and you will do fine. I ended up with a B. This class is not easy but do your best and you are guaranteed to pass. We got out early 10/15
He's the funniest professor i've had to date. This guy is also extremely helpful, kind, and intelligent. The HW is not collected, but it must be done in order to pass the class. There are 3 midterms and no final. His grading scale is legit, a 60% is a C. If you study hard and attend class, there's no way you won't get an A.
I recommend him for ISDS 361B. I took his class during the summer and he is funny! There were 3 tests. HW was assigned but not collected. Generous curve at the end.
take him. He does not use pp. I don't like teachers showing pp in class. You can read it at home, right? He works all problems with you on the board. Very easy to follow. 3 midterms and you'l get A if you understand. If you don't ask him and you will understand. interesting class
Great Professor! He knows how to teach and gives you a real foundation in the topic. 3 tests-- they aren't easy but if you attend his class and do the homework (not collected) you will be fine. Very interesting topics and applicable to operation management. Good luck!
He is funny and he cares about his students. He does problems on the board in class. There are 3 exams and 2 of them had a bonus question. Exams are not easy. HW is not collected but you need to do all problems to get a good grade on exams. Solutions for HW and review questions on his website are helpful. Great professor. Recommend his class.
During class, he uses book examples and works them on the board. Doesn't collect homework. If you don't understand him, there are good Powerpoints online. You can use notes/internet on all tests. I showed up maybe once every 2 weeks and passed. Very large curve on each test and final grade.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE THE TYPE OF STUDENT WHO LIKES ORGANIZED LECTURES AND NOTES. HE WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND WAS NEVER CLEAR ABOUT WHY HE DID THINGS A CERTAIN WAY. DONT GET ME WRONG, HES A VERY COOL PROF AND KNOWS HIS STUFF BUT I DID NOT LIKE HIS TEACHING STYLE AT ALL!!
The last person who made a comment did not study, I promise you it's quite easy if you do the homework. Aced the class just by learning the steps for each type of problem. His lectures are entertaining, but if you write down the probs done in class and examine it, you'll be fine. Good luck!! E Z Breezy
Took him over the summer. He knows what he is talking about. It is a boring subject, but he makes it interesting. Final grade is based on average of the three exams only, so try to score as high as possible on the first test (easiest). Pay attention, do the homework and you'll be ok. Goofy guy!
Zvi probably isnt the best 361B professor, but hes clearly passionate/knowledgeable. He often dwells on application concepts before building an understanding, which is apparent by all the blank stares when he asks elementary questions. His tests are open notes only, no book. If you study, you can easily finish an exam with an A in 20-30 min.
This professor explains things well, but you really have to pay attention and do all the homework because of the challenging nature of the class. It is not too difficult, but can often be new concepts. It is wise to keep up with the homework and consult the professor with any follow up questions. I would recommend him and this class.
Took this over summer and it was tough. However, the professor was very helpful. Dwells a bit on the theory but still clear. His "C" start at a 60. Be prepare to work outside of class and see him during his office hours.
Avoid this professor if possible. He is difficult to understand. His lectures are hard to follow. He uses both the assigned text and another he likes better, but you are frequently confused as to which he is referring to. The website he uses (not Titanium) is poorly organized.
AVOID this professor if you are not STATs incline. His lectures are DISORGANIZED, exams are HARD, DIFFICULT to understand what he is saying, EMBARRASSES you in class for asking questions, and uses textbook examples. I had to teach myself. TERRIBLE CLASS DO NOT TAKE UNLESS NO OTHER OPTION.
This guy is so hard to understand, poorly organized, doesn't care about student's concerns, and grades terribly. He has a thick eastern European accent and whenever students asked questions he would never really answer just beat around the bush. His c starts at 60/100 or something but you have to put in work to teach yourself.
Hard professor, MUST ATTEND EVERY CLASS, ALL HW IS OPTIONAL AND MUST BE DONE, AND SEE HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS FOR A B+. It's clear cut and simple, those who put in the work deserve the grade. He's very helpful during his office hours. Exams are on the computer using excel templates and turned in via Bluebook. ALSO curves test grade!
Never take his class! Never! He grades based on only 3 tests and they are horrible. Lecture, homework and tests are total different things. He never test what he lectured. His lecture HW is easy but useless. Even you do all the HW, you just cannot pass it. You don't know what he wants.
Extremely difficult to understand & follow lectures. Rarely goes over homework/test problems. Spends entire class on one problem, confusing the majority of the class. Class is graded only on 3 tests. Also very thick accent makes it hard to understand him. Would not recommend.
WORST professor! incoherent because of accent, IMPOSSIBLE exams, assigns new text yet bases the 3 exams on the old text, Exams and hw ex are littered w typos. 30 min into the exam he noticed and we started over again! Email him w Qs and he will give general As. He assigns hw w missing solutions that he insists r there, so u cant study. AVOID HIM!
Not as bad as people have rated him. You can't expect to get an A if you don't pay attention in class and practice at home. His exam is challenging but doable. He curves the grade anyway.
Out of four problems in every exam you can attempt only 2 because the other two would be a surprise to you. He refers to two books so that is confusing. You don't want to miss any class or else you will be completely lost in the exams. Take other professor if possible. I could not do that because I had to graduate that semester. You dont learn much
If you want to do well do the HW, go to class, pay attention, ask questions if your lost, and go to his office hours. His grading is one massive curve so it's next to impossible to fail, unless you do absolutely nothing, then expect to fail. His lectures can be disorienting with all the "theory", but pay attention when he does the problems.
You will feel like you are going to fail, but don't worry, he curves big time. You must do homework to do well and keep up. Also, make sure you take really good notes with screen shots. I didn't have any confidence when I was taking the class, but I passed OK in the end. He gives points for any effort on the test, so write something down.
He expects students to be able to solve problem by both excel and by hands in exams, so pay attention in his lectures even though they are long and his thick accent sometimes make it hard to understand. 3 exams, no final, open notes and he also curves a lot so it is pretty impossible to fail unless you don't show up in tests or do nothing at all
test are really tough, choose different professor if you can.
Take ANYONE else if you can. His lectures are so disorganized half the class has no idea what he is talking about. He spends so much time talking about the theory. The hw helps but his tests are 3-4 questions and are SO HARD. If you don't like to be called on don't sit in the front. I got an A in 361A and a C in his 361B. I regret taking him
He is my #1 professor at CSUF. He is willing to help you if you come to him for help. Do not miss any class and do the problems he assigned. You will do fine.
It is imp to do your HW and go to him during office hours. E-mails will not help as he cannot explain all the stuff over e-mail. Do problems from the new book and understand how the excel format works. Ypu
Really funny teacher, creates a great atmosphere in class. The homework he assigns is extremely helpful. It is never graded or collect it but to do well you should do it on your own time. Much easier than stats 1.
He's a great professor. Sure it's hard to understand what he's trying to lecture but if you talk to him, he'll do his absolute best to try to get you to understand the material.
3 tests averaged is your grade in the class.. all test are blue book and just 3-4 questions, extremely difficult but there is opportunity for lots of partial credit on tests. Lectures were hard to understand because of thick accent. Attendance not required but I wouldst suggest skipping.
I was extremely disappointed in the quality of Dr. Goldstein's teaching. He is unable to clearly communicate the concepts and material of this class. He focuses almost exclusively on the theory of the material and does not go over any homework in class. Tests are only 4-5 questions that aren't anything like the homework. I would not recommend him.
SUCH a great teacher! this guy knows how to teach and relate what he's teaching to the business world. I wish he thought more classes. has accent but you hear pass that the 2nd week
I don't understand these negative comments. I took ISDS 301B with him last semester and he is a wonderful teacher. Really cares about students' understanding of the material and is able to communicate the coursework in a way that is engaging and relevant in business today. Exams allow partial credit, Hw not graded in but it's best to do it anyway!
What a great time I had in Goldstein's class. He genuinely cares about his student's understanding of the course. He is also very passionate about the material so it is easy to engage in the topics. Exams can be tough due to their ambiguous structure;however, there are many opportunities for partial credit. 3 blue book exams is your grade.
Dr. Goldstein is a funny guy who places a lot of value on real world application. Statistics has never been easy for me but if you attend his lectures and follow his examples you have a high chance of getting a good grade.
Really cares about what he is teaching. Always read to assist students when needed. Lectures are easy to follow. Exams are open notes and he doesnt grade hard at all. Grading scale is perfect, an A is like 85% or higher. Hard to fail the class. Just show up and youll pass.
Tough class, decent professor. His lectures and teaching style is rather unstructured, which was annoying but not a big deal. Your grade is the average of 3 midterms. If you pay attention, see a tutor for help with homework, and go to SI for practice questions then you'll do fine. This class is manageable if you do it with confidence.
If you take this professor, make sure you do well in 361A. If you don't then this won't be the right class for you. He is hard to understand because of his thick accent, but overall a great professor. Do the homework and take advantage of his office hours if you're not keeping up with the material.
Best teacher I have had at CSUF. Disregards the ISDS curriculum and teaches the way he wants to teach. No power points, just teaches you theory and application. It's much easier to understand. He does not over complicate the class. Easy grader and gives you extra credit on each exam, which is open note.
His class is easy to get a B in but hard to get an A. The first exam was really easy so he made the second one a lot harder. It is easy to keep up with the material in class lectures and SI but the questions are a lot harder on the exams. Didn't really read the textbook. Only used it for practice problems that he recommends which you should do.
he is a nice guy however his lectures are very confusing, I even stopped going to class because his lectures weren't helping me. your grade consists of the average of 3 tests. but he does curve a lot. I passed the class but didn't learn a damn thing lol I personally wouldn't take him again
He takes the avg of 3 MTs, the class is easy if you pay attention. Open notes with more than ample instruction. I did well on all 3 MT, barely studied because it's all in the notes. Homework isn't graded, but do it for practice. Solid prof with with a great teaching method, I would take him again in a heartbeat.
I was nervous at first, but Dr. G turned out to be one of the most informative professor. He might seem unapproachable, but he is very kind and eager to help for anyone wanting to learn. You will learn a lot about regression, forecasting and advanced linear and non-linear programming. highly recommended!
It is a hard class no doubt. He tries his best to help, but sometimes it's confusing and he expects you to understand it. So just always do the homework/book problems, they are not mandatory but help a lot, especially on tests, when you are under stress and don't have time to look though your notes.
It is honestly hard not to get mad when describing this teacher. He was rude, unapproachable, sarcastic, and he was plain awkward. He was bad at teaching, he would go on about information that we didnt need. he cant get to the point. If it wasnt for his TA who understood the material much better than him, i would have failed. Please avoid him.
One of the most difficult professors Ive ever taken. I went to SI every week and understood it clearly. I even did most of the hw problems but when it came to the exam it was completely different. Usually only 3 questions no room for error
Professor Goldstein is very knowledgeable in his field. Your classes will normally consist of lecture for the first few classes of a chapter and then practice problems for the rest because they can take a while to do. Grade is based on 3 tests. He curves. Doesn't move on until everyone understands the material. Ask questions if you get confused.
I honestly don't know how to do well in the class, if you pay attention there is no guarantee you will understand, I think he expects us to take the exams just for the sake of passing, not the greatest professor I had so far, and hopefully the last. Expect to put in a lot of work if you want a good grade.
If your planning not to show up to class, you will be very lost when its time to test. His test comprises of his lectures, which are just going through easy problems, and problems he emails you to practice before the test. As long as you show up to class, take notes, and do the extra problems, you can pass with an A. He lets you use notes in tests.
I took this class over summer and I really enjoyed it and felt like everything I learned was valuable. He's very sarcastic and some people don't get his humor but it's nice to have that in such a serious class. I didn't buy the textbook --his example problems were enough to prepare me for every test. All tests are open note and not multiple choice.
Even if you still miss the first 1-2 classes, you still should enroll in his class ASAP. He's available in his office hours daily, so no need to formally schedule appointments with him, as he'll give you what you need, in case you miss notes/lessons, need clarification on online homework problems, etc. Lenient grader. Fair mind.
No group project, no book needed (unless you want to do practice problems); just attend all the classes, take good notes and ask questions! exams are open notes and free response, therefore you need to understand the reasonings behind the answers. 60% is a C, but you have to work extra hard to get an A&B. Professor Goldstein is nice.
Take perfect notes. Exams and most quizzes are open notes so you'll need to write down everything he says during lectures. He will also call on students so be ready for that. Find a good neighbor to sit next to in class, he's not really great at answering questions but it's good to work with those around you. Quizzes/Exams have a lot of EC.
I love Professor Goldstein. Go to class, take notes and seriously do not be afraid to ask questions. Only graded on 3 quizzes and 3 exams non-cumulative. Pay attention in class and practice a few problems after the lecture and you'll pass with a B easily. 89%-75% is a B. 75%-60% is a C. Take him!! He is hilarious and the best professor i've had.
So I took him this Fall and he was absolutely horrid. Unorganized, rude to the students, difficult exams, and hard to understand. His exams are always worded different then his homework. He has a really big curve on his grade but only because people barely pass the class. I went to every SI Session and still fell short. Dont take this class.
DO NOT TAKE. The exams are open notes but they are worded very complicated and different as to what he teaches in the lectures and gives for homework! Gives scores back weeks later with no feedback. He was 1hr late to our final exam in which we only had 50 min to finish. Mind you he likes all the problems done BY HAND. Very little excel work.
Goldstein is a very funny professor and is passionate about the material. 361B is a tough class no matter the professor so you have to make sure your stay on your game. Review the examples he goes over in class and the review files he sends out. Overall the class is doable, and a B is easy to get since it is from 75-90.
Grading: FA 2019 Exams (3 exams) Blue Book & Open Notes Quiz (3 quizzes) Blue book no notes allowed HW (3 assignments) A 90% and above B 89-74% C 73-60% Lecture heavy class. Must take really good notes & pay attention to pass. No room for slacking, grading is very subjective and unclear. BUILD relationship with him it helps ALOT.
His tests are so tough. It was hard to understand him. Bad at explaining concepts. Definitely dont recommend him..
he is a really good professor, I do all his excel hw he suggests doing for the midterm, and I take the picture of what I don't know where I did wrong, even I email him or went to his office he tried his best to let you understand it clearly. For those negative rate, I think you didn't try to talk with him or even let him help you out. Take him!!!
For ISDS361B, the lecture is hard no matter which professor you take with. Please ask him questions for all you don't know or understand. I'm an international student, and sometimes I can't understand the meaning of some point, and I will go to ask him for help. He is a really good man with patient. Don't blame your professor for your low grade.
He rambles a bit and makes small mistakes on his handouts. Other than that, Zvi is great! He's good at explaining and will do what it takes to make sure you understand the material. He goes slow and ensures you understand the actual concept and not just the math. No text required, 3 exams, 4 quizzes, a few HW. Exams a bit tough, study handouts
He cares about helping students succeed. The lecture can be confusing at first. His exams are open-book but really study and practice for the material. He provided us with a lot of resources during virtual instruction. Graded by 3 homework assignments, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. The final exam is non-cumulative. Overall, he's alright and I respect him
Avoid at all costs. Doesn't answer questions or emails. Makes things much harder than necessary. Will regularly upload incorrect files and blame you.
He is one of the best professors in CSUF. He is respected, caring, explaining the lecture slowly, answering students' questions wholeheartedly. I love his teaching method. Listening to his lecture, doing the review and assigned hw questions, you will get a good grade in his class. I love him!!!
If you want to cry every day, then take this class. Worst professor i've ever had. His grading is all over the place; it doesn't make sense. He's very particular about your answers. Students could have the same answers and get different grades. He makes the class harder than it needs to be and he is terrible with technology.
I would avoid him! His grading doesnt make sense. He does everything on a Dropbox. If you take him, get ready to teach yourself the ISDS course. He also gets mad when students ask questions.
Stupid grading system. He does a good job at explaining material... but the exams are so poorly written. His grading is unclear too. I attended every class, re watched lectures, and attended all SI sessions starting since the semester started. When it came to exams... they were NOTHING like what he taught. Poor job with grading and writings exams.
Not as bad as the reviews say he is.
Feels like he doesn't care, extremely disorganized, his tests are only a few questions which means if you miss one answer you will lose a lot of points.
He does not use Canvas/Titanium, everything is on dropbox. Exams are worth 75% of your grade. 3 exams including the non-cumulative final, 3 quizzes (15% of grade), and 3 HW assignments (10% of grade) he lets you do in groups if you wish. Attend SI if you can, his lectures are confusing sometimes and his exams are very tricky.
super cool dude! 3 homework assignments (with the group), 3 quizzes, 3 tests (including final). He does not proctor his tests. Lectures could be somewhat boring and he can go pretty fast but other than that, he's a good professor in my opinion
Professor Goldstein is a nice man. There are three quizzes, three exams and three assignments. His grading scale allows students to pass the class, its a matter of putting in the effort. Material is hard but he makes it doable. I recommend.
Professor Goldstein is a great lecturer of a hard topic. One poor exam resulted in me getting a C but he was supportive and gave me confidence to continue.
Goldstein is straight up the worst professor I have ever seen. His assignments are full of trick questions. And, he'll re-upload an assignment to trick you into keeping your same answers by keeping the same questions while altering the data. Just don't take this dude. He wants students to do poorly and is, at times, condescending.
He's probably the most horrendous lecturer at CSUF. He'll ramble on a topic while not giving any visual representation of what he's sayingall the while being disorderly, slow, and unenthusiastic. Looking at past reviews, he's been this way for several years. He's garbage. I'm surprised CSUF has allowed him to stay for as long he has.
Don't look at any of the green reviews. This man is terrible. The syllabus will trick you into staying in the class due to the large curve, yet he'll attempt to give everyone a D or a C with his poorly written quizzes and exams. Don't even enroll in his classes. Take someone else. I warned you.
He's condescending and has an ego when teaching what is essentially a simple, intermediate statistics course. DON'T DO IT. He wants to fail all of his students.
Goldstein has been trash since the early 2000s and is still trash in 2021. Don't try to trick yourself by reading any positive reviews. He's horrible.
His colloquialisms, personality, and unorganized rambling are deeply counterintuitive to learning. However, that's not the worst part about his classes. You can't just read the book, do the assignments, quizzes, and midterms to pass. No... he'll hit you with trick questions and inconsistent grading to lower your grade.
His grading criteria is unclear and questions on his exam are written in such a confusing manner. He has a asinine method of picking a student and asking them a question. And when the student answers wrong he is condescending towards them. This results in the class being quiet anytime he asks question and ends up being a waste of time.
By far the most difficult class I've taken at CSUF and on top of that, he makes the class even harder. The quizzes and exams are extremely difficult. Don't take this class unless you're ready to put in a lot of effort. No one in class got an A. Just imagine
Yeah, don't take this dude. He shows everyone's grades as transparency. However, that doesn't mean much when no one could achieve an A in what is practically an intermediate statistics class. He's a horrible lecturer and purposely makes questions as vague as possible to justify making correct answers wrong.
Goldstein is incompetent, and I feel bad for you if you're planning on taking him in the Fall. The only reason he still teaches at Cal State Fullerton is because of tenure and kissing up.
Garbage professor, man, garbage professor - the guy is a moron and acts like a genius. Whoever decided to give him tenure is probably long dead. Oh, and I did mention that Goldstein loves to pick his nose on camera.
Not a good professor for an online class. Took him for summer session. I understand it's quick BUT would NEVER take him again. He asks students to speak up and ask questions. But when you do, he's so rude and straight up says "Im not answering that". What?!? I have NEVER failed a class in my entire college career until now. It was awful.
Don't do it! Save yourself the headache and take someone else. Not clear and not helpful. He teaches half a lesson a certain way then says that we wont be using that method so don't worry about it. Then he'll explain it the way you should do it. it just get confusing and he is not help when you get confused. has flat out refused to answer questions
Full stop. Do not look further than this review because this professor is straight trash. He's been reported many times to the ISDS department for being a horrendous professor, and only tenure saves this doofus. Come at me bro, so that you can get pushed to the ocean.
Summer class. His lectures are all over the place and tailored to his preferences. The worst part is that you can't skip them or you'll miss his specific examples and methods to solving question on his quizzes/tests. 2 tests make up 75% of your grade, so you can drop an entire letter grade or two if you do poorly. Can't even self teach to do well.
I was in his Summer class, and he is a Garbage professor and garbage human being all around. Is he even human? He is more feral than the cats you see on the streets. DO NOT TAKE.
Rude, condescending, and hates when students ask questions, I would not recommend. He also sucks as a lecturer since he'll ramble about things irrelevant to the course.
The guy puts way too much time into the technical aspects of the course and more minor on the practical parts. Also, he has a large ego, and it makes you wonder why he ever became a professor in the first place.
Goldstein doesn't ramble "a bit," but a lot. His mistakes on his documents come at a great detriment because he never announces any changes to them. Do not take.
AVOID! spare your sanity! worst professor I've had; impossible to understand his lectures, rude, unhelpful, and condescending. lectures have nearly nothing to do with assignments, quizzes, or exams. refuses to use canvas and does things off dropbox+email so inconvenient. if I didn't know any better I'd assume he's actively trying to get fired!
Not a practical professor. He teaches like he's teaching statistics students and not business students. Also, his HW, exams, and quizzes are FULL of trick questions.
Goldstein is the worst professor out of the entire College of Business and Economics, and it's not even close. He's looking to retire and doesn't care about you or your learning experience. Safe yourself and take another professor!
Terrible professor. He strangely looks at the camera and talks without changing the slides. Very disorganized and rude. I do not recommend taking Goldstein if you want to get anything more than a C.
He sucks, plain and simple. He's unable to use Canvas and instead uses Dropbox to post all class materials. Despite the college mandate to use Canvas.
Terrible. Do not take Goldstein, or else you will regret it.
Professor Goldstein is unclear about the material and seems to skip around a lot which makes it difficult to follow. Our tests seem to be on examples we had not even practiced or gone over. As well he grades unfairly, students would have the same answers on their answer sheets but would receive different grades. DO NOT TAKE ISDS WITH HIM!!
Beware of this professor. He is extremely boring and rude and randomly calls on students to answer questions. Exams are full of trick questions, and his grading is inconsistent. Goldstein is the worst professor for ISDS361B. Take someone else.
Never in my entire life have I met someone so crass and terrible at teaching as Goldstein. Exams are a cruel joke as he fills them with trick questions to grade them arbitrarily. Want to put in hard work and barely get a C? Take Goldstein if you do!
You cant understand lectures because of his accent, but his quizzes/tests are on his specific teachings so you cannot learn from your book either. He also jumps around, so you cannot follow along the syllabus either. He's condescending and rude and gets upset when you ask dumb questions. Trick questions on quizzes/exams. He likes to call on girls.
Professor Goldstein is the worst professor that I've ever dealt with. The class itself should not be that difficult- however, through his lectures and assignments- he makes it impossible to learn the material. His assignments and exams are super tricky and make so sense. It's all open notes and it's still impossible to get a good grade on anything.
I highly do not recommend taking Goldstein. His lectures are 95% rambling, while the other 5% is him using the Excel templates. His HW, quizzes, and exams are filled with trick questions, making it impossible to get more than a B. Even if you study hard for this class and are an A student, you'll never earn an A. Don't do it.
The worst professor in the entire school, no one should ever take Goldstein. Plain and simple.
If you like to listen to an old man ramble and give you some of the most difficult quizzes and exams you'll ever see, then take Goldstein.
Terrible. Do not take this professor.
I'm warning all of you to stay away from this professor!
WARNING do not take this professor!! Even if he is the only professor available for the semester, wait on another semester to take a better professor! He does not care about the success of his students. His exams and quizzes are full of trick questions and he's rude whenever you have a question or concern.
Its impossible to get a good grade in this class no matter how much you study. His exams and quizzes are harder than what he teaches in class. At times he is condescending and rude. You can turn in the exact same paper as someone else and get a completely different grade. Please save yourself and do not take this professor, youll thank me later
First, no one in this class got an A this semester out of 40 students. studied his lectures and homework, exams look totally different. Finally, I took this class with a friend and we happened to do our hw together and got different grades multiple times even though we turned in the same thing. Typos on every test and quizzes. Lazy professor.
What a pitiful professor. His teaching ability is awful, and his exam questions have terrible syntaxes that make it impossible to get the correct answer. Don't take. Wait for a different professor if he's the only professor available.
Goldstein is the worst professor I have ever taken. His teaching is incoherent, and he's rude whenever someone asks a question. I do not recommend. He used to have solid reviews, but he's terrible now.
Professor Goldstein is great, willing to help if you dont understand anything. I agree that the course itself is challenging but if you do all the assignments and exercises, you will be fine. I recommend working on all in-class exercises on Excel repeatedly. so you understand everything clearly. 3 assignments, 3 exams, no homework. Easy A for me.
Nope. Don't take this professor. No one got an A in my class since professor Goldstein showed us everyone's grades. Questions are rewritten from book questions, and his answers to them make zero sense. You won't get higher than B. Anyone who says they got an A with Goldstein is trolling.
He doesn't put his class material on canvas. Only on dropbox which is annoying. There were three quizzes, three assignments, and three exams. I learned more from the S.I. than him. The S.I. is the only reason I passed this class. Professor's accent is hard to understand at times. He is difficult to get ahold of. Trick questions/answers all the time
Goldstein is so awful. He's so slow as progressing through the course material, and that's not the worst thing about his teaching. The worst thing is that his HW, quizzes, and exams are full of trick questions. Never again.
I already had to drop this professor because his first lecture was incomprehensible. The reviews here are correct. I would stay far away from Goldstein.
I dont know why his score is so bad. He teaches in a great way IF you pay attention. He doesnt teach you meaningless stuff, and sticks to the point. Just be willing to do the work. People gave him a bad rating cause they didnt put in the work. Plus hes a nice and makes funny jokes
Professor Goldstein is a terrible instructor. He can be very disrespectful, degrading, and belittling to the students. He was supposed to teach this class in person but made an executive decision to tech entirely on zoom without notifying the students. I would never take him again because of his inability to explain concepts without degrading us.
He doesn't explain concepts very clearly, and the nature of the material is difficult. Had it not been for the school's tutoring program, I would not have passed. Professor does not follow department guidelines, and does everything through dropbox, gross. Find another professor AT ALL COSTS. Easily in my top 3 LEAST favorite classes.
AVOID GOLDSTEIN AT ALL COSTS! He barely teaches you to use the templates. And worst of all, his assignments, exams, and quizzes are full of trick questions. He doesn't want anyone to get an A, so if you're going to work hard and want the grade you deserve, AVOID GOLDSTEIN!
The course is difficult, but this professor definitely is not as bad as the others say. Pay attention to his lectures if you can, but if not it's easy to teach yourself with the materials he gives. Everything is done through Dropbox and email. Pay attention to his grading scale in the syllabus, there is a heavy curve a lot of people overlook.
I highly recommend you avoid Goldstein, and if you have to take ISDS361B and he's only available, take a different professor the following semester. It's impossible to get a high grade in his class. He's one of those professors who curves down.
This class had the most incredibly difficult exams I have ever taken throughout college. His exams seem like they are for graduate level students with work experience in the field of analytics. Highest grade in the class was an 86%. Current average grade for my class is a 64%... My Background: Senior year student 3.78 GPA, Finance concentration.
A nice professor but in general this course is meant to be hard You are graded on 3 assignments, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. No final. Attend SI regularly and go to the tutoring center for assignments & you should be able to pass. All exams were open notes and partial credit is given however the questions can be tricky. Recorded lectures available.
Don't do it. He's one of the worst professors in all of Cal State Fullerton.
His lectures consist of rambling for over an hour, and you barely understand anything he's saying. He doesn't care about comprehension and is looking to retire. Stay away and choose a different professor.
It is impossible to get an A in his class. He refuses to give A's but if you want to get the most brutal B or C in your life, take Goldstein. He doesn't give anyone a fair grade.
He goes on and on about the theory and hardly goes over an example. He is not practical at all, and his questions for the homework, quizzes, and exams have so many trick questions. Also, he's condescending and says, "ahh, you mean something more elementary" to students asking questions. I got A's in 361a and Bus. Calc...
